A curious cafe

Roundhouse Cafe is a lovely little cafe on the garden village which includes a vegan shop. So it wasn’t too much surprise when vegan items started showing up on their menu and boy have they chosen some crackers. Take their signature sausage, beans and cheese pasty. They’ve developed a flaky vegan pastry, added vegan cheese and Suma sausage and beans and created a gigantic pasty that from first to last bite oozes comfort food. The sausage rolls are to die for (sorry, Gregg’s - this place does them better) and if you come near Christmas, you’ll get to enjoy seasonal goodies such as a vegan turkey and stuffing bake - which I was once served by accident and it was the best mistake to ever happen to me in a cafe!

As cafes go, this is one of the best for staff knowledge on what is/isn’t vegan right off the top of their heads which isn’t much of a surprise since they make everything. It’s not something to take for granted though if you’ve ever been told that slice of cake is vegan to later have your stomach tell you it wasn’t. It’s a limited offering at Roundhouse Cafe but that’s ok because what is here is well considered. Add to that the fact they are willing to try new things on a regular basis to better serve vegan customers and it’s an easy recommend.
