Serves meat, vegan options available. Pub and restaurant offering vegan dishes, check website or social media for the latest options. Open Mon-Sat 12:00-23:00, Sun 12:00-22:00.
The Sunday menu is more limited than the separate vegan menu that they have on other days, as they mainly cater for roast dinners, but the butternut squash and lentil wellington was superb; full of flavour with a generous amount of vegetables.
Went to pick up takeaway from the red cow and it was really great, we tried the classic and naughty vegan burgers and they were gorgeous, juicy and moreish. The chips were also lovely and crisp, will definitely be returning
Lovely pub, with parking.
They managed to squeeze us in on a Sunday when we hadn't booked a table(!)
We had the vegan roast, which came with... Vegan Wellington or sausages, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, swede mash, pickled cabbage, roasties, stuffing, gravy AND a Yorkshire Pud! Dream.
Lovely traditional pub - specialist vegan menu - Edit
Looking like a typical country pub, there is a small range of real ales and two menus, one fully vegan. All the offerings are great, but you will do yourself a disservice if you do not try the lasagna, which is delicious (and a real 'faff' to make at home).
The beer is always in top condition, some local ales always available. Very friendly staff and a great atmosphere.
Now one of our regular 'spots'.
Good sized carpark behind the pub, access is a little difficult so look out for the fence and take care. You can book if you are a larger party.
Would’ve given 5 stars if I could. The landlady is vegan and was very helpful. There is a great choice on a separate vegan menu. They also do a deal of two courses for £10 or three courses for £15, which is fantastic value. I ordered a vegan burger and chocolate torte, the burger was one of the best I’ve had. The pub itself is quite rustic and cosy. Also dog friendly, will definitely be back!
I love Happy Cow for just the reason it keeps finding these hidden gems serving amazing vegan food. The Red Cow pub has food better than a lot of all vegan places I’ve been too! Very friendly cosy pub and spoilt for choice on the menu. Will be visiting here again very soon.
Thank you The Red Cow. Talk about a spoilt for choice. Six starters. Six main courses. Wow! Plumped for the avocado toast (because why wouldn't I?) and my pescetarian friend went vegan for the night and had the teriyaki mushrooms. Then we shared the main course of mushroom stroganoff and butternut squash Wellington. Yummy. Yummy, Yummy. Finished with chocolate coconut torte (so decadent) and raspberry frangipane tart both with vanilla ice cream. Just superb. Why are there not more reviews for this gem of s pub/restaurant? Come on vegans of Luton/ Harpenden - support this place. It really deserves it!
