Okay so, I’m not one to leave a bad review, but especially for the town there are way better options. The group I was with was two vegetarians, a vegan (me), and a meat-eater, and only the meat eater liked his food. Quite simply, the meal was something I could have assembled myself. The black bean and lime bowl was bland brown rice and black beans, some sort of mild lime sauce, barely cooked onions, a tiny dollop of guac, and raw tomatoes. Thank was it. The Mexican bowl came cold, bland, and topped with salsa that looked and tasted canned. Giving it a three Bc the vegetarian chili was good although surprisingly spicy, even though it came with chips that were clearly right out of a Tostitos bag.
Second time here, my first time as a vegan and Laurie's as a vegetarian (she will eat dairy). To start with, we split a very nice gazpacho (s.cream on side) with salty corn chips. For a main, I went with the Mexican style whole wheat wrap (minus sour cream and jack cheese) with fajita veg. Laurie went with the black bean & lime ww wrap. Both wraps were excellent, filled with items like brown rice, black beans, salsa, onion lime juice, hot sauce, and guacamole.
Vegetarians and vegans (but especially vegans) have to self-identify and take care to eliminate certain items which are all over the menu, such as chicken, sour cream and especially Monterey jack cheese. But the staff are happy to accommodate and the food is very fresh and flavorful.
Will certainly return, and would enthusiastically recommend this casual, unpretentious, quality spot.
Their portobello bowl vegan style is really good. If my memory serves me correctly there aren't exactly vegan options, more like vegetarian minus a few items, which if you're like me you appreciate the availability of vegan options but when all the flavor and "work" is in the dairy it can get frustrating to say I'll have this but without this and this and this. Blah blah blah, try the portobello bowl.
The servers and preps are not educated in vegetarianism nor veganism. Our group of vegans ended up getting cheese on top of chili and sour cream in the guacamole. I truly believe, working in the restaurant business, that it is of utmost importance for each staff member to be fully educated of what is in their food and what specific eating habits people might have (i.e. vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, allergies, etc.)
