Love this place!

My husband and I try to visit The Purple Carrot whenever we’re in the area. He is vegetarian and I’m vegan and we both feel spoilt for choice 😊! Every meal we’ve had here has been amazing and the service is excellent. I really wish we had one of these in our home town.

Delicious lunch

Stumbled across on visit to Malton. Delicious food and coffee. Short wait for table only as so busy. Asked for recommendations from staff for food. Did not disappoint. Took cakes home to eat later as well as veggie tarts for lunch to following day.

Pros: Options of food, Portion size , Great quality

Lovely place and food

We were nearby for a wedding and the reception was at a very “non-vegan” venue so I found this little place. Although not fully vegan they had plenty of vegan options which could also be gluten free for me. We both had a delicious curry and then my husband had an apple strudel and I had a walnut brownie. Great food and the staff were really friendly and helpful.

Pros: Great vegan options, Great gf vegan options, Friendly staff

Cons: None

First time visiting - would go again

The selection is huge of both savoury & sweet items and hot & cold drinks.

My only gripe was the mushrooms in my sandwich were overcooked. I still enjoyed the meal but would have preferred them to be less crispy/browned.

Pros: Selection, Cakes, Seating area upstairs is lovely

Amazing selection

Amazing selection of delicious food, eat in or take out. Would 5/5 recommend the cakes and the samosas and onion bhajis (if you're lucky enough to get your hands on one before they sell out!).

Pros: Amazing selection to chose from., Staff are lovely., Reasonably priced.

Never Again

We live locally and whenever we’re in Malton we visit the Purple Carrot as we always choose to support small businesses who provide vegan food. Although the food there usually looks appetising we’ve sometimes found the staff to be a bit stuck-up and snooty, but have continued to support them nonetheless. Usually we opt for take-away food.

Yesterday however was the last straw, and our final visit.

The counter service was lacklustre and inflexible, the table service bordering on rude.

Upstairs, I’d caught the attention of a member of staff and asked for a spoon for the coffees, she wordlessly went away and returned with a spoon from what I later found was an area containing cutlery, condiments, glasses and bottles of water - not that she bothered to inform us of this. Her attitude put me off asking if there were any napkins.

On our departure, behind my back, the same staff member indicated to her colleague behind the counter, pointed at me and made a ‘mental’ gesture with her hand against her forehead. How do I know she did this? My partner who was several steps behind me witnessed it. Not cool Purple Carrot.

Pros: Visually appetising food, Nice coffee, Take-away option

Cons: Occasionally snooty staff, Cramped seating area, Narrow stairs

Amazing food!

I bought quite a few things from here but did not take photos... I had a large spring roll which was lovely, packed full of veg. The Moroccan pastry was okay but I wasn't too keen, it was a bit too oily for me (I'm not good with the texture). The cakes were gorgeous! I had a fig cake/muffin, a mocha cake which was 100% my favourite and a plum cake which I was told they don't make all the time. I will definitely be coming back from Scarborough

Pros: Selection of vegan cakes

Cute place and really nice food

Such a cute little shop with so many vegan options. Me and my mum got a range of the savoury options to try and it was all really nice. As we were entering, some people told us they were getting their samosa's as they were recommended to them by a Michelin star chef, so we also made sure to try some, and they were really delicious. The food was not too heavy or rich, which I really like. They had lots of vegan cakes. The one we tried was also really nice.

Overall really nice place. If I lived nearby, I would go back all the time

Pros: Nice food, Good value

Amazing choices

So much choice. Not everything is vegan, but the majority of it is. I opted for a lentil, spinach, and vegan feta filo parcel, chocolate and berry cake, and a tropical lassi. The only downside is the big price difference if you want to eat in.

Pros: Massive range of options, Friendly and helpful staff

Cons: Big price difference to eat in

Cosy place with good food

Nice selection of vegan food with great fresh salads and good GF options.

Not your typical vegan burger style offerings (nothing wrong with those) more a freshly made unprocessed menu style.

Some very tempting GF desserts as well.

Pleasant small dining area upstairs.

Amazing Vegan Choice & Super Filling!

Looking for fully vegan places to eat in Malton, this was the nearest option I found (they use non-vegan cheese and milk but not eggs).

Centrally located and a vibrant jungle-like feel once you get inside, there’s a quiet, calming atmosphere in the intimate upstairs seating area.

They had an overwhelming selection of vegan savouries, salads and cakes! After much contemplation and seeking advice from the very knowledgeable and helpful staff, they recommended the lunch plate so I could sample a main and two salads.

We decided on the Moroccan filo with potato salad and slaw.
I had a coffee and walnut cake for dessert/pre-meal and a decaf crème brûlée latte with oat milk to drink.

The food was fresh, full of flavour and very filling! I highly recommend The Purple Carrot and it’d be great if they went 100% vegan in the near future!

Pros: Extensive range of vegan options , Friendly staff, Flavourful & filling food

Cons: Not fully vegan

Great Vegan Options!

We bought loads of vegan (substantial) snacks and cakes from here, to feed a birthday party. Everything went down very well and it’s so lovely to have somewhere that labels what it vegan and what is veggie. Will defiantly come back😄

Pros: Lots of vegan options, Now open every day :), Cafe upstairs

Amazing flavours!

This quirky little place was a great pit stop - the choice of food was a large range especially with things that you don’t often see.
There was a bit of a queue but they soon saw to us! I had the quesadilla, and I’m not one for spice but this was very enjoyable.

Pros: Lots of options, Amazing mix of flavours, Wide range of different choices

Delicious

A cute little cafe in the heart of Malton. We were fortunate enough to get a table upstairs but there is only limited seating. Though it would have been worth the wait for a table. I had the quesadilla with pink slaw and couldn’t fault it. Also got a slice of the Jaffa chocolate cake to take away which was equally delicious 😋

We love everything they make at the Purple Carrot- the food is amazing!

Amazing food, coffee, cakes and pastries all of which have unique yummy tastes and are not reproductions of meat dishes, but independently amazing dishes created from whole ingredients. We go here as often as possible and have never had anything that hasn’t tasted amazing! Personal favourites- burrito wrap, samosas, salads, cinnamon buns, apricot cake, fig muffins, delicious coffee with wide choice of milk alternatives and biodegradable cups if you take out!!

Pros: Nearly all dishes are vegan, Cakes and pastries out of this world!, Flavour of all dishes is sublime :-)

Cons: Sometimes a long queue but worth the wait!
