Many vegan options

Went here with non vegan family. Was surprised how many vegan options there were and owner says more coming! The calamari was good, unique.

Vegan coal fired pizza and desserts

Last time I went they only had one vegan pizza option but it’s really really good and very creative, no fake cheese! It had some sort of pesto sauce that was very tasty. It was disappointing that they didn’t have more vegan appetizers.

Pros: Excellent wine list, Wines are available in the shop next door, Above-average vegan dessert selection

Cons: Not cheap for pizza, Would like more vegan appetizer options

Great vegan options from a family-owned restaurant committed to local food

I love a menu that clearly marks vegan and "can be vegan" dishes, and The Privateer offers lots of great vegan options, featuring organic produce grown at the nearby Cyclops Farms. Vegetarian and omnivore diners will be equally happy here. The vegan Blockhead Pie is a fabulous, loaded pizza with marinara, confit garlic, red onion, broccoli, roasted mushrooms, bell pepper and spinach, with big dollops of vegan walnut pesto on top - generous enough to serve two people. The delicious grilled pear salad can be made vegan, or the honey and goat cheese can be on the side so that a vegan can easily share this salad with someone who wants those ingredients. This restaurant is part of an impressive "blue collar gourmet" resurgence in South Oceanside - deeply rooted in local food sources and what the owners call "South O's community of proud, humble, dedicated, creative and passionate people." Very cool!

Pros: Clearly marked vegan options, Commitment to local food, Creative menu
