High prices, Crunchy rice, Discounts and Vegan feather-stuffed upholstery. - Edit

We went about 6 years ago and this place was AMAZING! We weren’t even vegan yet and we took out 2 small children. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was intoxicating and the presentation was impressive. All that being said, when we left we felt that we would never return just because of the price. We spent about $100 for the 4 of us and the children didn’t really eat much but we did order all kinds of food and desert. Still...too much money for vegetables!
Saturday night we decided to celebrate and as Vegans we decided to go back to the great vegan restaurant from years ago. Things have changed. The place was run down. The seating was dirty and had goose feathers coming out of the pillows (Vegan?). The service was slow and not very enthusiastic. It was 6pm on Saturday night and the place wasn’t even half full. The food was decidedly not very good. Everything we ordered was just OK and the prices were still sky-high. In fact, we ordered the Buddha Bowls and both my wife and i found that the rice was crunchy and undercooked or old. My wife said it was going to destroy her dental work. Our food server returned and my wife told her the problem. She said she would: “look into it”, as if we were lying. She then returned (I guess after verifying our claim with management!!) and told us they would DISCOUNT the dish. Not mine only hers!!!! So the bowl of rice, veggies and some tofu was DISCOUNTED from $9 (pricey to begin with) to $6. What a slap in the face! I have travelled all over the world and dined in some of the best and worst restaurants but that is a first: A DISCOUNT on an ill-prepared bowl of vegetables. Wow! Never again Present Moment Cafe will the shadows of my family or any of my acquaintances, darken your door. Very sad.

Pros: parking

Cons: mediocre food, very high prices, kinda shabby

Fantastic find - Edit

Thrilled to find this restaurant. Great selection of vegan and raw vegan dishes. I had the vegetable pad Thai with seaweed noodles. Great dish with good flavors and textures. Could use a bit more seasoning. Although I typical like a little more heat in my food. I will go again when I'm the area.

Pros: selection, quality

Review No. 100!!! - Edit

Nothing negative! The service, ambiance, and food was delicious. What a gem! I’m from South Florida and was driving up to Charlotte and this popped up on the map. I got the Macro Burger with a Detox Cooler. Reasonably priced.

Must go here - so amazing!!! - Edit

I went down to St Augustine for a work trip for a week and ate at this restaurant every single chance I got. The menu was amazing - I highly recommend to vegans, vegetarians, and anyone who likes to eat healthy food that tastes good and leaves you feeling good afterwards. My favorite dishes were the nachos and the chocolate milkshake, but really every single dish that I tried was superb. It’s also beautifully presented which makes a good online post as you try to show your friends that veg food can be delicious :). Whenever I go to St Augustine, I will make sure I get to eat at this yummy place.

Pros: delicious, healthy, vegan, not too pricey

Cons: none

It's good to live in the present moment - Edit

The Present Moment is my absolute favorite vegan restaurant. The food is delicious and the portions are just large enough to satisfy. I've brought many non-vegan friends here, and all of them have enjoyed it. The Present Moment was also the perfect choice for me to bring a date who was completely unfamiliar with vegan food, and suffice it to say, we've gone back together twice more. The only real downside is the cost of the food. Smoothies and simple starters like guacamole are fairly expensive, and it's easy to rack up a rather large bill with just two people. That said, the food is well worth the price. I've yet to find food like this anywhere else. I've tried just about everything on the menu at this point and I haven't been disappointed by anything.

Pros: Delicious food, Friendly and knowledgable staff, Good atmosphere

Cons: Expensive

loved it - Edit

First time here, but we will definitely come again. We were surprised at how large the menu was. The biggest problem was that there were too many choices! As a vegetarian for almost 40 years, I'm not used to having that problem at restaurants! Loved the Un-tuna melt, better than I expected. The pancakes were light and fluffy and the Sante Fe style sun burger (don't remember the exact name) was very tasty. Even though we were full, we managed to share a heavenly piece of raw chocolate pie. Very friendly service.

Pros: lots of menu choices, good service, tasty food

Ordered meal to go - Edit

We called ahead as we were driving down I-95, and this quick detour was well worth it. We ordered the nachos and and the Sunshine burger. The nachos won, hands down, but both meals were thoughtfully prepared and delicious.

We didn't have time for a sit down meal which is a shame because the atmosphere was quaint.

Would love to visit again.

Great place - Edit

The Present Moment Cafe is the most romantic and dreamy vegan date spot. My husband and I have ate here several times when we travel to St. Augustine. The food is clean and delicious. Menu is mostly living foods but they do always have a cooked dish. The PeaNot pie & raspberry cheezcake were incredible. Also, the staff is delightfully friendly and helpful. What a beautiful cafe!

Pros: Delicious healthy food, Friendly staff, Romantic lighting

Cons: Pricey

Great food...but...still hungry - Edit

My wife and I have been here four times so this is a fair review. Positive: the food is really fresh and tastes very good. Service is great, friendly staff and chill atmosphere. The couch is super nice too. Cons: after a 60.00 check for two, you would like to think u would be full after an appetizer, main course, and desert, however, i am writing this review and eating a bowl of cereal. my wife and i are low fat, high carb vegans so that could be part of the issue because i could probably eat two entrees and would be full by then. Its interesting because there is literally NO regular vegan places in northeast florida. if they could add more hearty vegan menu options and have the other half of the menu raw, it would be packed!

If you are in St.Augustine or anywhere close by make this a place to check out. The menu is so unique and the food is delicious. The staff was very kind and knowledgeable about their menu. Nice beer and wine list as well. I hope to get back soon and try a smoothy and some dessert.

Eat here - Edit

Whether or not you're vegan, or raw, or gluten free, or some combination of the three, if you're visiting St. Augustine you NEED to eat here. Best raw vegan food I've had in a long time. Had the nachos, sushi, and samosa with the cobbler for dessert. Everything was absolutely wonderful.

not as good - Edit

I have been coming here for years and don't get me wrong, I love this place, but it's honestly not as good now that it has switched owners/management... the food is still always good but not as consistent in taste. However, what is consistent in is the fact that portion sizes just keep getting smaller and smaller while prices stay the same ... I always used to leave this place feeling happy, satisfied, refreshed, and rejuvenated and now I leave every time feeling hungry and cheated... I wish they would go back to the old portion sizes ...WE ARE VEGANS . We need real sized portions of our veggies to keep us happy and healthy

Pros: lots of options, great food

Cons: ridiculously small portions, higher prices than most vegan restaurants

Could have been a much better experience. - Edit

We found you on HappyCow and we were so excited to drive out of our way to experience the restaurant. Saturday afternoon around 1:30 we arrived. We walked into a very crowded, busy room. The four of us stood around for a few minutes before a staff member came to greet us. Her greeting was rushed and not very informative about when we'd be seated so we decided to order our food carry out style. After approaching a staff member behind the counter we were given menus. We ordered several items and immediately paid the bill and proceeded to wait. We weren't offered a cup of water or any indication of the time it would take for our order. It was awkward. I felt as if they would have rather we just left without ordering.
After 30 minutes and no indication of our order being ready I approached the counter again and was ignored for several minutes. Awkward again. I made contact, asking when the ordered food would be coming. After several minutes the staff member returned and said it was still being prepared. I waited another 10 minutes and approached again. This time I was given a cup of water and told it would be just a couple more minutes.
Ahhh we received our order after 45 minutes of waiting.
It could have been so much better if we were just told it would be that long. We would have found other entertainment. As it was we hung out in the alley and near the front door thinking that any minute they'd have our order ready. We left with the statement "oh sorry we're just so busy"
So now for the food. The food was delicious but sparse. We're vegans. We eat a lot of food for nourishment. One vegie taco just doesn't cut it, especially for $8 or whatever it way. The sun burgers were great. The pumpkin pie delicious.

A lovely find in St. Augustine - Edit

Stopped in after a quick search for vegan options in St Augustine and my husband and I left more than satisfied! As frequent visitors to vegan and vegetarian restaurants around the southeast, this place exceeded our expectations. Huge menu, high quality food, generous portions, great service, and a cute atmosphere. The DLT (dulse, lettuce, and tomato) sandwich, mushroom loaf, sushi, and salads were awesome. And coffee cashew ice cream - yes please!

Pros: large menu , wine and beer, desserts

You must eat here! - Edit

Me and my partner made the blessed decision of eating here on a beautiful summers day. For the past 4 years of using this app I have never written a review for any of the other restaurants I've been too. Not to say those restaurants weren't great, but there is something so deliciously compelling about this food! My conscious could not let me go about my day without sharing how grand the food is here! If you're trying to decide between this restaurant and another; chose this one, you will not regret it.
P.S the cheese cake is was a flavor experience indescribable by words.

Pros: everything

Cons: I cannot teleport here

Delicious Lunch - Edit

My mom, some of her coworkers, and I went here for lunch. The food was delicious and the portions were plenty filling. I got the sunlight burger which was delicious. We also shared the dip trio appetizer. Each dip was better than the rest, the hummus and guacamole being especially tasty. Then we got some desserts to share. The apple and pecan crumble was scrumptious. My mom couldn't believe that the ice cream was dairy-free it was so creamy. We also shared the dessert special of the day which was the sunbutter pie. That was also very yummy. The food was wonderful. I will say that the service was pretty slow. It isn't that the food took long, it was ordering the dessert and getting the bill that took longer than expected.

The portions were super tiny and the food wasn't tasty enough for the price. My boyfriend and I left the table hungry. We ended up going straight to Cantina Louis to get a huge plate of fresh guacamole. Really expected more from such a cool place.

They use honey. - Edit

I just ate here the other day. I bit into my sandwich made of millet bread which tasted like honey at the very same time the waitress told another patron that they have honey. Nothing tastes like honey except honey, don't insult my intelligence by stumbling over your words trying to tell me it's agave, which is what waitress did. You shouldn't claim Vegan Restaurant if you have, serve and use honey. Just be honest!

yvette 29 Jun 2016 - Honestly honey we don't use honey. The only sweeteners we have used in our kitchen for the past 10 years are: date paste, agave, maple syrup, banana puree and coconut sugar.
We apologize for the waitress in training's miscommunication which she brought to our attention. Our DLT sandwhich composed of smokey maple dulse, lettuce, mayo and avocado has a sweet bite to it which comes from the maple syrup. Our untuna sandwhich with dill and mayo has a touch of agave and lemon. We hope you visit us again and we would be happy to sincerely answer any of your questions.
