Love this place - Edit
I love the variety of rolls, ramen, yakisoba, and everything else on this super cute menu. Everything is named after an influential mind from the sciences and each dish was a successful experiment in flavors.
Read moreBig fan of the food truck so was excited to try out their brick and mortar location. I haven’t had sweet egg since I was a kid and the food truck scratched that culinary itch for me so well. I was looking very much forward to doing that again here with the Okinomiyaki, but it was out of stock so I’ll just have to go back again…and again and again.
Pros: Tons of variety, Great service
Cons: Some things go out of stock, No designated parking

Crazy good. - Edit
My partner isn’t vegan and said this was the best sushi they ever had. Big W. It’s a little pricey but I would say it’s definitely worth it!

Delicious and beautiful 😻 - Edit
Tested it during the LA playground. Even though the waiting time was long (25 min) because their truck was very successful, it worth it 😉

Special thanks to The Plant Lab for mixing up some super special alchemy for me in their laboratory. Can't say I've had its equal in LA. Sits atop my list of world's best western style sushi along with Midori, Shizen, Beyond and Tane.
Read moreI loved the avocado and sake cut roll, and two types of stuffed inari. Thanks for the the magic, these wizards have found the philosopher's stone, because they certainly have managed to turn lead into gold. Or rather sa-led into gold!

I've got your picture. Or maybe two.
You made me zushi, so I love you.
I sit here drooling cause what else I gonna do?
Oh it's in color, the best in town.
It's on the table, I'm in the clouds.
I'm gonna eat you like there's no one else around.

What a place! As soon as I saw okonomiyaki on the menu, I knew I was gonna love it here. And I did. Such a large menu, there are just two faults: 1. You'll find it hard trying to decide what to have from the amazing menu, and 2. I live 7000 miles away, so a return visit soon may be difficult. Unfortunately I won't be able to make it back soon, but you should definitely try it.

Amazing - Edit
Amazing quality sushi. The faux fish looks eerily similar to real fish. Although I found the ramen rather bland.

Vegan Japanese - Edit
Came here for takeout on a Friday for dinner. Ordered online around 4:15pm. They open at 4:30pm. We waited in our car until it was ready, e-mail said 4:45 but it was another 10 min wait when we got there.
Read moreWe ordered the Japanese curry with chicken, shoyu ramen, salmon and yellowtail nigiri, Marie curie roll, and a Mendel roll. The curry was a bit sweet but really enjoyed the avocados in there. The Katsu was convincing. The salmon nigiri texture was amazing. The rolls were okay. Salad dressing was good.
We would come back if craving Japanese food as they’re so close, but Shojin is much more impressive

We NEEDED this - Edit
All of our food was creative and delicious! It’s difficult to find fully vegan Japanese establishments and this one did not disappoint. The hand rolls were divine. The tonkatsu was incredible….I just wish I had a bit more Omni pork (or less rice…I had a lot of rice left over). Give it a try!

The food is so good, I almost can’t believe I’m eating vegan seafood. I ordered the Gravity Bags and Marie Curie roll. Presentation was beautiful, textures unreal, flavors beyond any expectations I had. I can’t recommend this place highly enough!

Imaginative vegan Japanese food - Edit
Initially, the menu was a tad confusing with salmon, tuna, eel and other fish listed…but it’s all vegan! I see why it’s called The Plant Lab; we ate things that really seemed to be from fish, like the roe, for example. The restaurant does lack in ambiance but the staff was extremely warm and helpful. The menu is very large, printed on plain white paper and stapled together. The tea I ordered was delicious and our waitperson filled up the teapot repeatedly with hot water. We ordered spicy tuna hand rolls which I hadn’t had for a decade! I think they may have been made from chickpeas but they were delicious. We had a crispy tofu over rice and shredded cabbage that was delicious, and two special rolls that were fab. One had crispy fried shrimp on top and it was exceptional. If you haven’t had vegan shrimp yet, it’s a stunning reminder that we don’t need to kill animals to eat. Humans have it all figured out. Back to the restaurant: it is quite small, only about 6-8 tables, and there isn’t continuous service. And they don’t serve any alcohol. This place may not look like Shojin, but the food was imaginative, flavorful and very satisfying. If I lived in LA, I’d try everything on the menu.

Great Experience - Edit
We had lunch at The Plant Lab. Enjoyed their rolls - Japañero, and basic rolls with pickled radish, and a salad with crispy chicken. Attentive service as well! We were surprised by the 15% lunch discount. We even found street parking! We'll be back for more.

I tried a bunch of things on their menu including their spicy miso ramen, umi roll, spectrum rolls, gravity balls, but I absolutely loved their crispy chixkn teriyaki bowl. Their presentation of the food is super cute and the food tastes amazing. Highly recommend!
