An honest hotel restaurant that is surprisingly good! - Edit
The restaurant is within the Pig hotel group which combines luxury end accommodation with eclectic furnishings and locally sourced foods. The Pig in the South Downs is no exception - yes it does serve up meat and fish but it also has vegetarian options and some dishes can easily be made vegan. Simply ask your table server and I think you will be very pleasantly surprised with the outcome. We were particularly lucky to have chef introduce himself one lunch time, and for him to take up the challenge of using his stock ingredients to provide his choice of starter and main course for the two of us. We were bowled over with the selection made and true to form, I got so carried away with enjoying my food that it was far too late to think about taking photos. Sorry! We have stayed here before and enjoyed the limited vegan supper options but yesterday’s lunch time offering was second to none. It reminded me that direct, personal communication leaves less open to interpretation. The restaurant uses about 95% locally sourced produce, ideally within a 25 mile range, helping to keep their carbon emissions to an agreeable low. We were also fortunate enough to be able to take advantage of their complimentary electrical vehicle charging system.
Read moreIf you get the opportunity of booking here, do remember it is a small chain of independently run hotels and each establishment is developing its own style and way forward in this eye widening world in which we live. It is a learning process for us all. The restaurant is light and airy, looking out over a generous sized terrace and I am looking forward to watching the sun go down from there whilst nursing a crisp glass of white, chosen from their predominantly Sussex collection of vineyard offerings (many other choices are available)!
