Vegan Sunday Roast!

Despite living in the UK for a year previously I never had a proper British Sunday roast, and decided I wanted to indulge in a trip with my (non veg) partner. It was great to find a place that could easily accommodate us both! Despite the UK being extremely vegan friendly, not that many pubs offer a vegan roast with all the trimmings (an absolute necessity for a proper roast), so this was a great find! I throughly enjoyed the mushroom roast (was a bit more of a pie/savory pastry, but delicious nonetheless). The pub was also really cute.

Excellent vegan Sunday roast

This nice pub was on a list for Best Vegan Sunday Roasts in London, so I went to try it. It was really good! A mushroom-cashew pastry, gravy, roast potatoes, greens and root veg. The Bloody Mary was a good accompaniment. Pleasant service.

There’s a reason it’s a classic

I feel as though The Phene is one of those pubs everybody has a story about being in. It’s a total classic, tucked away just off the kings road. Now that it’s owned by Clive Watson, father of vegan influencers Lucy and Tiffany Watson, there is always a variety of good vegan options available. I love the hummus platter that is often available during the summer months.

Great food but very slow service

The food was really great but unfortunately the service was really slow.

The vegan Sunday roast was delicious though and I would come back for this alone - it’s hard to find somewhere that does both a good vegan roast and meat roast for the meat eaters.

Pros: Vegan options available , Lovey location and setting , Friendly staff

Cons: Could do with some more vegan options , Expensive

Creative and sooooooo delish!

The Phene is a very comfortable and refined pub, with many vegan and gf options. We had the tofu skewers, BBQed big tofu cubes, with 2 sides : a curried cauliflower, green beans, swiss chard, pomegranate and raisins curry, and a creamy cole slaw. Everything was well seasoned, flavourful, perfect. A surprising, very pleasant experience. The music is also very good! If you are in this neighbourhood, Chelsea, go there, you won’t regret it!

Chelsea Prices

Had a seitan burger for lunch at The Phene. It was good if not spectacular. They're making an effort with the menu for vegans as there are a couple of options of each course and they have a vegan-only food week coming up in August 2018.

It's nice inside; plenty of space inside and the garden was good too although busy on a Saturday afternoon.

With a couple of courses and drinks you'd be spending around £35, which is probably about right for the area. £14 seems a bit much for a burger to me.

I'd probably go here from time to time if I lived in the area.

Pros: Good food, Nicely done inside and out, Friendly staff

Cons: Expensive (as per the location)
