We saw this vegan restaurant on Happy Cow so booked a table. I can honestly say that this was the tastiest Asian vegan food I have eaten and would thoroughly recommend it. Tom Kha soup and salt and pepper vegan king prawn starter, vegan chicken curry, Mongolian vegan beef stir fry and shiitake fried rice mains. Couldn’t manage desert, although the extensive menu looked very tempting, but managed vegan Calypso coffees!

Absolutely love the orchid whether for a sit down meal or a takeaway. Delicious food all completely vegan. They’re always adding new options to the menu too so you can try something different very often.

The food was absolutely amazing. We had the pumpkin croquettes and shredded duck for starter and then the beef in ok sauce and chicken in black bean sauce with jasmine rice. Everything tasted so delicious. The staff was so friendly and helpful And the decor of the restaurant was really nice. Would highly recommend if you’re in York.

It’s nice to have a fully vegan restaurant to go to. I wasn’t very impressed with the flavours (maybe the dishes I ordered), but would give it another chance to try the other dishes on the menu.

Walked in by chance. The place was solidly booked but they found me a seat immediately. I had the general tso tofu which was pleasantly spicy, crispy greens and shiitake rice. All tasty and enjoyable. Bill was just over 20 quid. Quick service and helpful staff

I normally rate vegan places 5 stars, but I wanted to be a bit more critical on this one. I went 2 times and had the following:
Read more- lamb skewers: very disappointing. Dry and tasteless
- Vegan House Stir Fry: was alright but not great. Did have a clear taste though
- fried noodles (side dish): disappointing, not much taste and had to add soy sauce
- Steamed Gyozas: disappointing. Not much taste
- Pork chops: this was more like 5 stars, even though it got cool very quickly
- chocolate tart with toffee sauce: good
Personnel was kind, not arrogant.
Pros: Interesting vegan options, Kind and calm personnel
Cons: Some dishes really needed more taste

On first impressions we weren't very impressed with the place. Staff seemed rude and we weren't told how long a wait we would have. However, the food more than made up for the initial experience. We had fried rice, dumplings, kung pao tofu and noodles, Everything was delicious. Kung pao was my favorite. Maybe if we had made reservations, the experience would have been better.

We were lucky to get a seat as walk ins, as this place is clearly a popular spot! I can see why; although nothing really blew me away, everything was tasty and service was good despite being busy.

I completely forgot to get photos except of the duck! But everything was good. I was with an omni who has barely ever tried mock meats, and he didn’t care for the duck (I thought it was good but not great), but he enjoyed the lamb skewers (we both agreed they were much more like chicken, but tasty either way) and he seemed very impressed by the black bean chicken.
I would definitely return!

We ordered the “duck” with pancakes, crispy shredded “beef” and Mongolian “beef”. It was all absolutely delicious. I’ve missed crispy beef so much and this was just like the meet version, only without the dead animal. If you are in York you should 100% stop here.

Was pleasantly surprised to find this restaurant almost next to our travelodge so would have been rude not to try it.
Read moreWe went for the savoury crackers made from pea protein - pleasant but only faintly reminiscent of prawn crackers. We started with the mock duck pankackes, really gorgeous with the hoisin sauce.
For mains we had the chick'n and prawn in szechuan sauce.(which was battered but didn't say on menu)and char sui pork Cantonese style with brocolli. Also the mushroom fried rice.
For me the szechuan was the winner - the sauce tasted gorgeous. We had a great experience overall. Service was great. Would go back straight away if in York so I could try other dishes.

The food was really good – we especially loved the vegan duck pancakes! We then shared the mushroom fried rice along with a vegetable and tofu stir-fry, and the lemon “chicken”.
Read moreComing from London, I'd still say Tofu Vegan (London) is the best Chinese vegan food I’ve had, but finding this spot in York was fantastic, and I would rate it not far behind!
The venue is spacious, simply yet nicely decorated, and the staff were friendly and really attentive. A great experience overall.

The food was nice with a good selection but I wasn’t blown away. We had salt and pepper chips, shredded “beef” in ok sauce and tofu, “prawn” and “chicken” in Szechuan sauce. All tasted good but could’ve done with more seasoning, especially the salt and pepper chips.

Mock meats in the mains were delicious! We had chickn in black sauce & house special in spicy Szechuan sauce. We loved everything!
