Fantastic Tofu!

Recommendations made by a vegan server include vegan sesame tofu enteee- comes with soup or salad. The soup last night was spicy black bean- so so good! The stir fry dishes- tofu and sub coconut milk for the curry stir fry. The tempura vegetables. The tofu sandwich can be made vegan with the GF pita. Note their bread and regular pita contain honey. The vegan coffee cake was on the dessert menu- also divine!

Pros: Many vegan options, Perfectly prepared tofu- no rubber texture here , Yummy desserts and soup

Cons: Indoor/outdoor seating , Heart of downtown

Good choices for downtown Frederick

Frederick feels like it should have more places like The Orchard, but it doesn't. So, this place is pretty good, but it's not 4 or 5 stars like I'm craving going back. With that said, the food is reliably veg*n with many options.

The starters that are vegan are soup and hummus. There's a fruit and cheese plate, but, I would just request no cheese to make it vegan. There's a side salad, which I know they could make vegan. They have one vegan dressing on the menu, the sesame vinaigrette. The hummus is pretty standard texture with good flavor. The veggie variety is fresh and lovely with the hummus.

Another reason I'm not a super fan of this place is because there is a lot of seafood here, and that is a little too much for me.

For salads, they have 2 that are vegan. Salads aren't hard to make vegan, so, that is nice there are 2, but why only 2? I ordered their veggie salad, but for some reason, they forgot the avocado. I'll be back to order it again, I'm sure they'll remember when I tell them.

The sandwiches are not vegan or the flatbreads, so, that's interesting. I am pretty sure the tofu hummus could be vegan, but, it's not labeled as such. There's a few sandwiches for vegetarians with cheese and avocado, veggie melt, orchard veggie, grilled portabella pesto and portabella mushroom melt.

There is 1 vegan entree, crispy sesame tofu. If you're going for marked vegan options, it's the stir fry choices, of which there are 6 marked options like Polynesian, Szechuan, Japanese, Chinese, Mediterranean and Creole. They all come with organic brown rice and some raw bean sprouts garnished plentifully on top. For the Japanese and Indonesian, you can get noodles instead of rice. It is a lot of food!

The restaurant isn't open too late, so don't try to go at 7.30 pm, they close at 8! There are a good number of tables, but it's not a super large restaurant.

Pros: Vegan markings on menu, Good number of choices

Cons: Seafood served here, Some items seem like they should be vegan

Hey there! I work at the Orchard, so I thought I’d answer some questions! The house made bread and flatbreads both have honey, but you could substitute the GF pita which is made from masa. Tofu can be subbed out on a lot of the salads if you’d like.

Great vegan options

We had lunch here today. We started with the hummus appetizer to share. Then, my boyfriend had the creamy curry stir fry with tofu while I had the Japanese stir fry with rice noodles. Everything was delish and oh so, filling. Tons of gluten-free and vegan dishes to choose from.

Mediocre food

I’ve been here a few times while visiting my parents and they have been quite a few times, usually on a Tuesday when our favorite restaurant in downtown Frederick is closed. We’ve finally agreed to never return. The food is always mediocre. Where the soups are nearly always delicious, the dishes are always swimming in oil and over salted. Also, where there are many vegan choices, nearly every one is tofu. They did make sure to note that the tofu is organic (my parents won’t touch non-organic soy products), it severely limits what one can eat if tofu is not an option. Their bread is made in-house, but I know that the majority of it includes honey in the recipe, so we’ve never tried a sandwich. The staff is always super friendly, and they nearly always have two or sometimes even three vegan soup options, but if all you eat is soup, you will leave hungry! We won’t be back, but if you are in a pinch in downtown Frederick, get one of their soups!

Pros: Lots of vegan options, Friendly knowledgeable staff, Location

Cons: Expensive, Food is not great, Very salty

Great Tofu

When I was here last, I got a salad with hummus and tofu. First of all, their tofu is amazing! Their hummus was pretty good, too, and I did enjoy the salad overall. The server was very knowledgeable about which products were vegan and which weren't, and I really appreciate that in a non-vegan restaurant.

Pros: great tofu, decent customer service , nice atmosphere

Cons: serves animal products , no vegan bread available

accidentally served me meat

I've been to The Orchard several times. It is always a pleasant experience and a good place to go for a decent meal. The menu indicates which items can be made vegan or vegetarian. I ordered crispy sesame chicken and clearly requested the vegan option. When I got the meal, it appeared to be real chicken. I notified the waiter, but they assured me it was not chicken. I am not one to make a fuss so I said okay, but I looked again and I was positive it was chicken. I informed the staff and they finally looked and agreed that they served me meat. They were very apologetic and got me a new meal. I gave the meal to my non-veg friend because I hate to see food wasted. Honestly, I haven't eaten here again after the meat incident, but I would give it another try if I was in the area because it was just an honest mistake.

Pros: homey food, comfy vibe

Cons: communication mix ups in the kitchen

Good, if your vegan your getting tofu

This place is pretty good. I read some reviews saying that there are honey in the vegan options, which I think they are changing. I went and asked if their baked bbq beans were vegan and they checked with the chef, and they pointed out that they recently changed the recipe to exclude honey to make it vegan. Which is cool. They are also super sensitive and even list some foods as NOT vegan since it shares the deep fryer. I didn't care, so I ended up getting their vegetable tempura.

The food was good, but I was a little disappointed with the vegan menu. There were lots of different tastes, but everything was pretty much tofu. We were cool with this, but rules out most food for any no-soy vegans. But their tofu was well done, as it was very dense, and well flavored.

Staff was great, informative, and beautiful setting.

Pros: Yummy food, Local drinks and produce

Cons: Vegan items are tofu, Shared deep frier

Pretty good

The prices are a bit high for the portion sizes, but the staff is great and service decent. It's nothing groundbreaking but certainly a good option.

Love the Orchard

Always delicious. This is our go-to place for lunch during the workweek. Love the stir fries, veggie sandwich, and of course the amazing veggie salad that comes with tofu and hummus. Excellent service, consistently fresh food.

Honey in Vegan Items

I loved the food and the service was excellent. But, about half their so-called vegan items have honey in them. I was very disappointed in that! Make sure to ask the waiter about every item that is labeled vegan that you might wish to order.

Pros: Service, Food, Location

Cons: Honey in vegan items, Not all veg

High Priced, Low Taste Vegetarian Food

I've eaten here a few times... The food is always expensive and lackluster, but it's one of the only restaurants in town with a lot of vegetarian options so I end up coming back every now and then hoping for a better value. Unfortunately, it seems to stay consistently bland.

Pros: Vegetarian Menu

Cons: Price, Value, Boring Food

Great for Veggies, Okay for Vegans

while they have a lot of vegetarian options they are somewhat lacking on the vegan choices. they do have a daily vegan soup and one vegan salad dressing (beware the tomato tamari dressing is NOT vegan). also, their tofu and the veggie tempura are fried in the same fryer as their fish so the "veggie salad" and "vegetable tempura" are not for strict vegans. also lacking on vegan wine choices - many are organic but not very many are vegan. great place for vegetarians and best option in Frederick for a sit-down restaurant for vegans.
