Lovely place but not many vegan options

The Old Sawmill Tearoom is a lovely little place and we enjoyed our visit, but there are not many vegan options. There was nothing on the menu when we visited, although one of the daily specials was vegan, but they had already run out of it.
Fortunately, the soup of the day was vegan, too. It was a pumpkin and coconut soup and it was very good. We shared a small bag of sweet chili crisps as well.
One of the cakes (jaffa) was vegan as well and we had it after the soup, it was really good, too.

The cake was marked as vegan, but nothing else was and the staff had to check with the cook to make sure the soup and daily special were vegan. It seems that they were not prepared for the question, although they were really friendly.

The place itself is wonderful and so cosy, it really is an old sawmill that has been converted. The historic pictures were interesting and you can see the features of the original building.
It is located on the edge of Dodd Wood and next to Mirehouse Gardens. It belongs to Mirehouse, but you can visit the tearoom without paying the entrance fee. We totally recommend a visit to the gardens if you enjoy such places.

Vegan options which I wasn’t expecting

I had the hummus sandwich without butter - you need to stipulate without butter.

Cakes that are vegan were a coconut and cherry flapjack and a date slice

Pros: Cheap

Cons: Not many options
