Best Paninis

I’ve been missing a nice, melty, pressed panini sandwich since the rona killed Beet Box Bakery in Denver (RIP, my dear, Five-Points friend).

I was thus elated when I stumbled upon the lone review here regarding The Old Oak’s mushroom panini menu offering.

So, to downtown Niwot I went and ordered the Vegan Mushroom from a barista who rang me up and spun the iPad for the “just a couple more steps for ya” routine and — Goo! — $16.31 for a panini sandwich?!? Has inflation really gotten this out of control?

Minutes later, the eagle had landed hot in a brown paper bag. I took home that steamy parcel and unwrapped it and cut it in half, because sandwiches cut in half always taste better for some reason.

Was it as delicious as I would have hoped?
I have to say — it was — it really, truly was.

Was it 16-and-a-third-dollars-before-tip delicious? Gahh.. it. juust. might. be..

Given the sun-dried tomatoes and other complementary tastes (pretty sure this one, for such a simple concept, nailed the salt-fat-acid-heat quadrafecta), a generous side of chips (warmed up to perfection from the steam of the bag), and a clutch pickle spear (discovered in the depths of that bag), I’d say this one’s worth going off the beaten path to try at least once. Especially if you’ve got a few extra shekels in the month’s lunchtime budget to throw at it.

5 stars (awful app limits me to 4)

That this dogwater app limits me to 4* based on BS ensures I’ll never use it again. Vegan shroom panini was 5 stars. Proper flavorful with veg cheese and sun-dried tomatoes.
