Vegan Options

Visited specifically for The Nettle's vegan options. It was a Tuesday evening and quite busy and we sat downstairs. We ordered sourdough with Romesco, cauliflower with yeast, leeks with lentils, pea risotto, broccoli with almonds and courgette with olives. It was great wines were labelled if vegan or not, but what we found strange is there was no info about serving size, it just said glass on the menu.

The food came quick my husband wasn't keen or aware the leek dish was served cold, I thought the hot dishes needed to be hotter not lukewarm. The food was tasty, nicely presented but it didnt have the punch of flavour we were expecting. Having read the reviews maybe our expectations were too high. There was no specific vegan dessert (what a shame) so they adapt a meringue dish which came with cucumber sorbet, so we declined. Sorbet as the vegan option is poor in this day and age.

Creative small plates

Visited on a Saturday evening, when the menu consisted of small plates (it seems to also have a busy brunch/lunch service earlier in the day). The menu was very well marked in terms of vegan options, including the wines. We shared some sourdough and olives to start, and went for the leeks, cauliflower, courgettes, risotto and fries for main. Each plate was magnificent, presented well and all the flavours worked perfectly. This was plenty of food for both of us, but we managed to squeeze in dessert - only one had a “vegan option available”, blueberry sorbet with meringue. I was hoping for some vegan meringue but unfortunately it was just two scoops of the sorbet - which was nice, but I was a tiny bit disappointed. We shared a bottle of Austrian white wine, but was tempted by a few on the menu. Overall the meal was really enjoyable and offers a great option for vegans in the town.

Pros: Well marked menu, Decent vegan options, Friendly, quick service

Cons: Some more dessert options would be great
