Fabulous little spot for brunch - Edit
I always appreciate a spot that has vegan options but also suits my non vegan friends and boyfriend. This place has at least 3 vegan options for brunch. It is always nice to have a choice.
Read moreI decided to go for the falafel beet burger and it was a good choice. Even my meat eating friend got that and loved it too. Would definitely return and try the breakfast burrito.
Also recommend sitting on the patio as it’s a lovely view and atmosphere.
Pros: Tasty, Views, Choices

Outstanding experience - Edit
This is a wonderful dining experience curated with organic and locally farmed ingredients and they have their own greenhouses and Celler.
Read moreThey cater to a lot of vegan 🌱 dishes and you can ask the waiter for things that might not be on the menu.
You can mix and match dishes to share or have a 5 course tasting experience that can be 100% vegan. They pair nicely with wine 🍷 or beer 🍺 and you can have cocktails. I absolutely loved every course. We were even able to sit next to the fireplace 🔥
A reservation is recommended but not necessary.
It’s a higher price than casual dining but very much worth it.
Pros: Incredible tasting food, Local and organic , Great Vegan options

Vegan brunch - Edit
While dinner definitely with the new menu offers wide, creative and healthy options, brunch menu has options too. JustEgg to substitute eggs and hash can omit butter to make vegan, vegan feta available and all at no sub charge. They have oat milk included in coffee prices and almond bayleys, a quinoa bowl for later lunch

New menu definitely worth trying! - Edit
The new menu at the Juniper Bistro is has plenty of vegan/vegetarian options, based around sharing in a 'family' style. The brussel sprouts, tomato sourdough salad and squash ravioli are my favourites.
Read moreSome of the vegetarian dishes can be made vegan, the glazed carrots for example can be made with maple instead of smoked honey.
The bar uses aquafaba instead of egg whites.

Best vegan meal (yet) in Canada - Edit
We have eaten in most vegan/vegetarian restaurants in Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver. We didn't expect to find many options in Banff, a small resort town of just 8000 people. Before we tried it, Juniper Bistro wasn't listed on HappyCow, but we found it through our own research. This meal ranked as the best vegan meal we've had in Canada.
Read moreTheir vegan options are clearly labelled on the menu, as are options that can be made vegan on request. They also note gluten- and nut-free dishes. There is a strong focus on local and seasonal ingredients.
The staff is friendly and knowledgeable about veganism and dietary restrictions. The view of the mountains is phenomenal.
The food was innovative and delicious. We had an amazing appetizer of wild mushrooms with haskap berry, pinenut, truffle and housemade summer vegetable pickle. For mains, we had roasted acorn, butternut and summer squash with beluga lentil, charred corn, pumpkin seed and tomatillo mole and then beet gnocchi with walnuts, rainbow swiss chard and tomato confit. For dessert we ordered summer fresh soup with poached peach, tea infusion, mint and granita (one of the most creative, tasty desserts I've had) and an assortment of sorbets.
This restaurant is definitely a hidden gem of vegan fine dining in an unexpected place. Definitely worth a visit for a special meal if you're in Banff or the vicinity. HappyCow's 5-star rating system only allows 5 stars for fully vegan/vegetarian restaurants; otherwise I would have rated Juniper Bistro as 5-star.
