Unique Historic Setting, Lots of Vegan Cakes!

The Jester's Tower is a charming cafe in a medieval tower standing at over 700 years old. They host many events, and information on these can be found on their social media.

I really enjoyed my visit to The Jester's Tower. The cafe truly offers a unique dining experience, which I fully appreciated. The hardwood floors, stone walls, and spectacular views paired with the history of the setting were truly awe-inspiring. I also loved seeing how many vegan drinks were available on the menu, including vegan milkshakes and soya cream for vegan hot chocolates and coffees. Another area where this cafe caters well to vegans is through their cakes as most of the cakes in the display were vegan and labelled as such. The staff member who was working had a good knowledge of the vegan menu items and veganism in general as well as having great customer service skills. Finally, I also enjoyed the food I had from here. The bagel filling was much more interesting than most meat based cafes offer as it was loaded with high-quality coronation jackfruit, sultanas, and lettuce, which came stacked high and well presented on the plate.

The way The Jester's Tower misses out on having 4 stars from me is through how they only offered one vegan savoury lunch dish on their menu. This was disappointing to me as other menus I had seen posted online had a more extensive vegan section, so the cafe has clearly scaled back for whatever reason. As I have already mentioned, I enjoyed my lunch, but the packed bagel was served on a small slate with only a knife to eat it with, which made it quite difficult to eat without making a mess. Another reason why I am marking the cafe down is for how cold it was in there. There seemed to be no heating, and the door was wide open, and the low temperature truly was distracting.

Despite all this, I'd certainly visit The Jester's Tower again, even if it is only for a coffee and a cake, but I do plan to keep an eye out online for upadated menus. The coldness has not been mentioned in any other reviews I have seen online, so perhaps it was just a one-off during my visit. It really is a wonderful and unusual cafe that makes an extra effort for vegans in many ways, but for fellow vegans planning on having lunch here soon please ensure you will like the one vegan option that they currently have on offer.

Pros: Loads of Vegan Cakes, Great Views, Vegan Milks and Cream, Quirky Cafe, Vegan Milkshakes, Lovely Staff Member

Cons: Limited Vegan Savory Lunch Options, Cold with No Heating, Tough Bagel, Impractical Plates

Vegan cake

Delicious choices of vegan cake, nice range of teas, friendly staff and great location! Best views in town if you manage to get a window table, and not bad from the outside seating also!
