Almost nothing vegan

As of 7 February 2025, this restaurant is no longer vegan-friendly. Their vegan dishes were discontinued when a new menu was introduced as of 7 Feb 2025.
With some effort I got them to make me a vegan pasta dish. I appreciate their effort, but for $24 I expected more than mushy noodles in a bland veggie chipotle stir fry ....
there is also awful vegan soup, called Three Sisters. Sorry to be mean but it tasted like it had been sitting in a can for years. Watermelon and arugula salad was edible but super expensive for what you get.
We had better luck in Stovepipe Wells. At the restaurant/saloon got a vegan meatball sub and a vegan cheese pizza, though neither was very good. Warning: the French fries are fried in the same oil as their fish.

Pros: Spectacular scenery , Scenery is wow, Did I mention the scenery?

Cons: The food, The food, The food

Pleasant surprise in the middle of the desert

If you're hungry in the middle of Death Valley, the options are - unsurprisingly - pretty slim. But limited doesn't mean bad.

While other dining options at either the Ranch or the Oasis/Inn at Death Valley are practically non-existent, the inn's dining room will do right by you.

Very recently, the dining room got new management and they've revamped the menu, and it's good news for us vegans!

It's pricey, as you'd expect given the remoteness and their captive audience, but the host (Michele), waiter (Moises), and server (Dani) understood how to accommodate us, and confirmed things with the kitchen for peace of mind.

Michele pointed out the vegan options, confirmed with the kitchen, and was very happy to work with us

The first thing we received at the table was a bread basket, with butter. When we let the server know we were vegan, she apologized, noted that there was one bread to avoid (a cheese-topped bun; she offered to replace the basket instead but we opted to just avoid that one bun), and then left and came back with an olive oil drizzle to replace the butter.

The drinks menu had some mocktails, all vegan afaict, and the two we had were delicious; a fresh lemonade with muddled blackberries, and a prickly pear ginger beer.

We let our waiter know we were vegan and he knew to make sure no cheese was added to the pastas (we ordered the primavera and pesto). They were surprisingly tasty, and I'd happily eat either again.

The final surprise was the amazing dessert: a poached pear with house-made French vanilla rice milk gelato!
'Ugh, rice milk?' I hear some of you say. 'That's the worst option. Rice milk ice cream is so thin and watery.'
Au contraire, Mes amis! This was rich and flavorful, and delicious; on par with the good stuff from Ben & Jerry's and So Delicious (made with oat, almond, cashew, and sunflower).

Other than the steep price (about $100 before top for 2 entrees, 2 mocktails, and a dessert), I have absolutely nothing bad to say, and if I find myself back in DV again, I'd happily dine there again. Heck, if it was near me back home, and I was out with family (vegan or omni), this place would still be on my list.
