Delicious curry and roti! - Edit
I walked over to The Hungry Shack and was greeted by one of the friendly staff there. I told him I was vegan and asked for his recommendation which was the Roti Canai (pronounced chan-I) He whipped up a quick vegetable curry and his partner rolled out the bread and cooked it on the grill in front of me.
Read moreIt's a small place, on the side of a busy road, with dogs wandering past. Not a quiet place to sit and enjoy your time, but perfect for a quick meal like I had. The boys were friendly and asked me where I was from and made light conversation.
The food was delicious and came out piping hot! I love roti and could easily have eaten 5 of them, but I restrained myself on this occasion to just one. They scrunch it up so it's all flaky and delicious and the boys told me to dunk it in the soup, which is also delicious! (in a wetter sort of sense)
Highly recommend this place if you're passing or staying in the area. Top notch and they know what vegan is, so there's no nonsense. The roti canai cost me 35k, though there are no prices up on the board, so I can't tell you how much anything else costs!
Pros: Easy to find, Vegan options, Roti is made fresh and flaky as!
Cons: The roti portion is 1, not 100- restraint required

Great and cheap Indonesian food - Edit
Lovely little booth on the roadside with authentic Indonesian food. The chef is very friendly and tries his best to make the food to your liking. It’s a bit noisy but you can watch them making your meal. One of the only restaurants advertising vegan food. We had Mie Goreng, Nasi Goreng, Curry, Roti Canai, all vegan. Ask for the sweet Roti for dessert!
