Paradise

We stayed for a week and what an amazing week! 😍 the food was seriously phenomenal, all vegetation but it was no issue to make our meals vegan (basically just not adding cheese on top). Everything down to the fresh fruit and veg were amazing, all grown in their garden. A great place to stay for some lovely walks and some nice chill recharge time too. There’s also 2 restaurants in the villages that offer one or two vegan options that we’d visit for lunch or a little beer in the evenings. But this place was phenomenal, we’re already planning to go back.

Pros: Food, Volunteers, Location

Highlight of our six weeks trip

The house in the village was one of the absolute highlights of our six-week journey through the Balkans. The guesthouse is truly exceptional—serene, deeply connected with nature, and surrounded by charming mud houses, tents, hammocks, and dorms for those who prefer them. It's run by volunteers, and during our stay, everyone was incredibly kind and accommodating. We met many wonderful people with whom we plan to stay in touch.

Each day, the guesthouse prepares meals for guests, and Atlas, who acts as the manager, cooks some of the most delicious vegan dishes, both for dinner and breakfast, using mostly fresh, local produce. The area itself is worth the visit alone. The valley is stunning, with serene blue rivers where you can swim in total seclusion— to many different spots to even count.

Then there are the incredible Pëllumbas Cave — aka the black cave, 360 meters deep, with chambers you can explore as far as your courage allows. It's an extraordinary experience in total darkness with bats everywhere.

Adding to the charm is the vibrant animal life at the house in the village. There are plenty of chickens, tortoises, a cat, and three dogs. Pëllumbas a big dog who actually lives there, and might try to sneak into your room at night. Then there's Blacky, the eldest lady, always up for a snuggle but with a bit of a bite to her. And finally, Rocco, the most fun and unique dog, a mix of border collie. He's incredibly affectionate and will gladly join you on your hikes if you invite him. He even accompanied us through the caves, around the valley, and beyond.

Even if you already have plans or hotel reservations in Tirana, I would wholeheartedly recommend skipping them for a trip here. It's easy to reach the house in the village—just a 40-minute ride on a local bus from Tirana.

Pros: Fantastic food, Fantastic nature , Fantastic people

It’s not always easy finding vegan food in Albania. At the House in the Village you will find a vegan haven nestled in the mountains, surrounded by different hiking tracks and extraordinary natural sights. End the day with a glass of raki around the campfire!

Incredible atmosphere

The people and the environment are just amazing.
You can either stay in a dreamy mudhouse or in a sweet stone house. The dinner and breakfast were vegan and super tasty!
For nature people a perfect place to relaxe and finding a bit of peace!
I can just recommend to try it out!
