Good vegan selection - Edit
A really quirky place you have to see and visit. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable about the vegan options. There's at least half the menu suitable. We had the Chilli, vish and chips, and mushroom pie and gravy, followed by apple pie and custard. Would recommend booking as it gets busy.

DESERVES 5 STAR - Edit
Landlord and Landlady are vegan and the menu has lots of vegan options. Beautifully quirky place and lovely food. I had the vegan fish and chips and my partner had the mushroom stroganott pie. The pie was amazing.

Would give it 5 stars! - Edit
Happy Cow only allows 5 stars for fully vegan places and The Highwayman does serve some meat, but the menu is predominantly vegan and it's so nice to go somewhere we're we're front and centre! It also means you can take a mixed bunch of people and everyone is happy.
Read moreWe've had vegan roast dinners here and they're fantastic - gigantic portions, nicely cooked, and thoughtfully presented.
The place itself is incredible, a twisty turny ancient building stuffed full of curios. It looks like it would be a nightmare to keep clean but it was absolutely spotless. Totally worth a trip to Sourton.
Pros: extensive vegan menu

Good vegan options but pricey - Edit
I am so conflicted about this totally unique pub!
Read moreWe went as a family of 5 (2 adults, 3 kids) as I knew they had a heavily vegan menu and were totally vegan for Christmas and boxing day.
We had both vegan curries, vegan fish and chips and 2 child meals of vegan fish fingers, chips and peas.
The kids meals weren't on the website but when we asked we were told they could do child size portions of vegan sausage and mash/chips, vegan fishless fingers, and vegan pie. The child size meals were £9 and honestly they weren't far off an adult size portion.
The curries were lovely and with decent accompaniments, the vegan fish dishes all came with lemon wedges etc and the kids all cleared their plates.
What I really didn't like was the price of drinks. We knew the meals were quite pricey so tried to keep the drink costs down, we ordered black current squash for the kids (half pints) and were charged £3.75 each! Drinks were so so expensive.
So I'm torn as it was lovely to have such child friendly and tasty vegan options in West Devon, but we felt totally fleeced on the drinks.
Lots of awesome character and decoration for keeping everyone entertained as well.

Pros: Good vegan options, Large kids sized portions for £9, Amazing character and quirky environment
Cons: Really really expensive soft drinks, Quite cold inside in December (take a coat) , Kids menu not on the website

I was very concerned to see that you were charged £3.75 for a squash as it is usually £1. I can only assume it was a mistake and will rectify this if you get in contact with me. So sorry.

Awesome - Edit
Great pub from the 1200s. Mysterious nooks and crannies. Wonderful food and beer. 90% of the menu is veggie or vegan. Attentive service. Devil's chocolate cake and vegan vanilla ice cream was outstanding. Love this place.

Britain's most unusual pub - Edit
Found this by accident on a jaunt across the moors and was so impressed by the exterior that I had to stop in. Was equally impressed with the interior decor and the plethora of vegan options, including a vegan beer and wine list. Highly recommend you visit
