Lovely Pub Dinner!

Had a great meal at this pub (would give 5 stars but HappyCow won’t let me) . They don’t have menu online which sometimes puts me off as I like to check before I go but it’s because they change their menu regularly. However they had two vegan mains on their menu and another on the specials. I had the curry from the main menu which was a little spicy but really good! No vegan puddings other than ice cream but there was choice on the starters and main so pretty happy with that! (Meat eater dad’s meal was apparently very good too). Would recommend and go back if in the area!

Cons: No pudding other than ice cream

A real find for vegans in the heart of the Lake District

We didn't expect five-star service and fine dining-level food here! We also didn't expect such great tasting vegan dishes. But that's exactly what we got!
It's hard in most places to get plant-based food, but as well as some incredible meat dishes, there's a good few starters and mains that are plant-based. We chose chargrilled oyster mushrooms with a rich butterbean cassoulet, marinated courgettes and carrots, and divine lenttil, date and raas el hanout 'meatballs', served with a chunky veg pearl couscous. And they were both delightful.
With a weekly changing menu, the kitchen team here are clearly passionate, thoughtful and know what they are doing. How refreshing to discover a place that while not vegan, really understands the nuances of plant-based eating, and goes the extra mile to deliver healthy fresh food with creativity and flair.
My only complaint is that we live too far away to visit often.
Oh, and a couple of the desserts were accidentally vegan, too! We will be back - thanks to all the friendly team, especially Mike in the kitchen!
