Disappointing Overall - Edit

I felt the menu at Herbivores was somewhat underwhelming for a vegan. I ordered the risotto and my partner the aubergine. Both dishes started off tasting good but after a few bites the greasiness of the risotto became apparent and it did not leave a very good feeling afterwards. The aubergine was nice for a few bites but became bland with no variation and very little couscous to go with.

Presentation of dishes was good.

The 'fresh' juice tasted like it was out of a box or bottle.

The desert - a coconut milk panacotta - the only vegan option - was good and the highlight of the meal.

Two drinks, two mains, a starter and a dessert cost over HK$600 and overall this represented poor value for money as I would expect true fine dining for this price and I do not feel this restaurant meets this category. I'd at least expect an upgrade from paper napkins at a fine dining restaurant :)

Pros: Food presentation

Cons: Price vs Quality, Unexcting food

Expensive & underwhelming - Edit

The overall impression I have on this place is that it is ridiculously expensive, and the food doesn't represent great value. My wife & I ordered a bottle of water which cost around HK$70...approximately US$10. The food is decent but nothing memorable. Tricky to find...have to walk through the book store when you arrive by escalator.

Pros: Decent food

Cons: Expensive, A bit tricky to find

The Herbivores - Causeway Bay - Edit

I had seen adverts for this place for a Sunday brunch deal of main, dessert and drink for $128 honky. That sounded a pretty good deal so I decided to hoover along to check it out. I left feeling underwhelmed.

1stly the choice of drink is either sprite or coke. Any alternative has to be paid for including water at 40 odd bucks.

Next is the main courses. A choice of 5 which while eggs benedict and the like will appeal to some, not those of a vegan persuasion. The only vegan option was polenta cake, cherry tomatoes, mushroom and a sprig of asparagus. This tasted but there wasn't very much of it. No fears, there's dessert on the way to fill the gap...

,,,Maybe not. The dessert was a fruit mousse kind of dish that was gone after 5 tea spoonfuls.

Add the 10% service charge this came to $141. 1st thing I did after leaving was go and buy some food to eat from somewhere else.

Pros: tasty

Cons: Small portions, Limited choice brunch menu, Not good value for your buck
