A lot of options but not the best quality - Edit
They had a lot of different options but a lot of it was bland or weird textures. They were out of some stuff we wanted & forgot some things we asked for. Everything was in plastic even for dine-in. Drinks were in plastic solo cups. The dessert was amazing!

Wanted to give them a chance - Edit
First time in San Jose and we love trying new vegan restaurants. Unfortunately this one was terrible. The only good thing was the Flautas.
Read moreWe ordered through Uber Eats so obviously the cold food isn’t totally unexpected. However the fish n chips is literally Gardein brand at 4x the cost and overdone. The mac n cheese had congealed un melted cheese slices on top and was inedible. We ordered peanut butter pie (not good) and an Oreo cheesecake slice (but we’re brought another peanut butter pie instead without notice). Ordered bottle water and brought Perrier instead.
The cost of this food is nuts for the terrible quality. Gave 2 stars only because the flautas were okay.
Cons: Over priced, Inedible, Provide substitutions without notice

Unimpressive and Cruel - Edit
Far too expensive for how mediocre (and greasy) the food is. Not to mention the servers were pointedly rude to my partner and I when we dined in, only to immediately turn around to other tables being perfectly chatty and pleasant...it was the most hurtful experience I've had from a place that serves food based on empathy and kindness.

What has changed? - Edit
Something has changed at this previously awesome place. Menu is pared back from before which is ok/understandable in these time but fundamentally the food has changed and doesn’t resemble the food of a year ago. My favorite item, the spicy wings, is entirely different- different sauce, different taste. The Red Rooster burger was - while not terrible- nothing like the gem of a burger it used to be. The cheesecake is also different. It’s not a terrible place, maybe I am just looking for an explanation since it’s a totally different restaurant I. The same location. Did management change? Did they change food suppliers? Anyone know?

Pros: All vegan , Breadth of options
Cons: Expensive, Different than it used to be

It has changed and I agree with much of what you said. I preferred it when it was Happy Bamboo and had mostly Vietnamese dishes. I still go there very occasionally but I used to go once or twice a month.

Delicious Vegan Food - Edit
On our trip, on our way through San Jose we decided to stop for some vegan food. Did not disappoint! We got some cauliflower wings, a fish fillet, a breakfast burrito, and a few pies! Very happy we did. It’s such a breath of fresh air to see a fully vegan restaurant compared to where we come from. Take full advantage of this!

Not sure what happened - Edit
Happy Hooligans was my husbands favorite vegan restaurant in the San Jose area for a few years. He used to eat there weekly. When he first moved to the area in 2016, he went about 12 times in 2 weeks because he loved it so much.
Read moreI’d been once before in 2018 and thought it was alright.
We just went in recently since we were in the area and my husband was so excited for Happy Hooligans. We ordered Buffalo cauliflower bites, Buffalo Chik’n BLT (with bbq instead of Buffalo) and the Lennon burger.
The Buffalo cauliflower bites arrived first and we were so disappointed. As soon as we opened the box - the strong smell of the vinegar from the Louisiana hot sauce was stinging. The bites were soggy and waaaay over drenched in the Buffalo sauce which made it so incredibly vinegar-y. They did not look like the photo we had seen advertised on their ig.
My Lennon burger...The patty on this was disappointing. Tasted frozen - not freshly made. It tasted like a super basic soy patty and wasn’t seasoned at all. The house made thousand island dressing was bland. The cheese sauce was bland. The ice burg lettuce wasn’t crunchy and felt limp. The bun was squashed and looked like someone had sat on it. Even the ranch dressing for the salad was bland. No taste of seasoning or herbs. Tasted like milk or heavily watered down mayo.Every element was disappointing. It was bland overall and probably one of the worst burgers I’ve ever had.
My husband said his BBQ Chik’n BLT was okay because of the BBQ sauce. He loves BBQ sauce, so the sauce made it tasty. He said if it would’ve come drenched in the Buffalo sauce like the cauliflower bites that would’ve been awful.
He was saddened that its not the same as he remembered.
I will say that it was busy with lots of phone call orders and people coming in to pick up - but that shouldn’t exactly excuse sending food out that isn’t up to par. I don’t think there was an expediter quality checking food before packing it up and sending it out because it was so busy which is an unfortunate mistake because then maybe our food could’ve been corrected.
When people pay to eat out - they typically think they’ll be getting something better tasting and better quality than what they can make at home.
With so many great reviews, I like to hope that the experience we had doesn’t typically happen. I’m not trying to dissuade people from coming here - just hope they’ll improve quality when busy so future paying customers don’t have this experience.

I💗Comfort Food - Edit
I had high hopes for this place because I love vegan junk food. Bacon ranch fries were very good, wings were good (but very oily), BBQ chicken Mac and Cheese was just okay (the Mac and Cheese itself was pretty bland). I loved the cheesecake and my husband didn't like his German Chocolate Cake (too much coconut & nuts). My order was ready very fast and they provided silverware & napkins to go.

I've been here a few times in the past month or so and it has been good every time. Service is fast and friendly, the establishment is cute and clean, and the food is delicious! I keep forgetting to take pictures until it's dessert time. Favorites so far are the Thai tea, Po boy, and Oreo cheesecake. So excited to try more from the menu.

San Jose has very few all-vegan restaurants compared to other cities, and this is one of the best. I wish San Jose has more restaurants like this. I love the variety of foods and desserts offered. Everything tasted great and even though it was a bit crowded, I really enjoyed my visit.

This has become my absolute favorite vegan place in the area. I even had my hubby pick some up while I was in labor a few months ago. The “bacon” pieces they use are amazing (especially in the Bacon Cheese Ranch Fries) and all the burgers are 🔥🔥🔥. I would eat here for breakfast, lunch and dinner if I could.
