Freshest food in Laos!

I ate here 3 times during my stay in Laos and from the first day I was blown away by how fresh the food tastes. After traveling for quite a while, it was a taste I haven’t had. The dishes I had were: basil tofu stir fry, peanut sauce bread and vegan pancakes with lime and sugar. I also tried a delicious caramel latte with oat milk.

The basil stir fry and the peanut sauce are dishes that I feel defined my experience at The Happy Cat. The flavours were not loud, but rather very subtle and soft. Every bit was delicious, and I loved it, but it was different tja most food I’ve had in Laos. With these two dishes, I will admit that my body felt great afterwards, it felt very healthy and fresh.

The pancake with lime was great option too, the pancake was European rather than American (which I loved) and combining it with lime is unexpectedly good (will try at home!)

But the best thing about this place is the staff. Everyone was so kind, service was outstanding and done with a smile. I truly felt everyone was happy working there. The owners is also very friendly and the place is run very well.
I love their mission to help cats in Luang Prabang. The place is clearly more expensive than other restaurants, but I have all the faith that the money goes to the right causes: local cats and the wonderful young staff. Must visit!

Two great soups

I had khao soi (Lao style) and vegan Pho, both very tasty! Drinks were amazing as well. I loved it there. Nice outside sitting (inside is also possible) in a lively but still quiet part of town.

Perfectly happy cats

We loved it here. Went twice. Vegan pancakes (crepes really) tasted like I had them as a kid. Coconut iced americano delicious. Lots to choose from here. And cats visit! Perfection.

Vegan pancakes and more

Pancakes were typical Dutch type, thicker than the French type.
Wonderful concept of raising money for cat care in the city. Loved the food, the option for vegan pancakes. Drinks were good as well. Lots to choose from. And if you are lucky, one of the cats will come by.
Everything was vegetarian, vegan options and plastic free!
We went back 2x

Delicious food and environmentally friendly restaurant

The food was very tasty and it came in big portions. They are environmentally friendly which is amazing, fight for animal cause and seem to share the daily income with all staff (as it says on the menu).

Pros: Traditional delicious food, Environmentally friendly, Friendly staff

Lots of vegan dishes with a "side order" of cat

Although the cat(s) come and go as they please, they may honor you with a brief walk by. But no worries, the food is delicious. We had the vegan pad Thai and pho'real noodle soup with veggies, both excellent. And then we had the vegan chocolate and banana crepe (make sure you ask them for the vegan version), also great.

They give a portion of their sales to the local cat and dog rescue and they have a donation box if you choose to give more.

We would eat here again for sure.

Again - very delicious dinner!

Yesterday I tried the Kapow! dish. Stir-fried basil leaves with tofu, mushrooms and veggies. Comes with wholegrain rice. Had the Lao spicy variant which was exactly my taste. Very delicious!

Personale gentilissimo. Abbiamo preso due bowl, a me personalmente i noodles tutti attaccati e freddi non sono piaciuti, non si sono amalgamati benissimo.
Locale molto molto carino e stra pulito

Great place, great food

During our 3 day stay in Luang Prabang we eat here everyday. Staff is super nice. Nice cozy atmosphere and all dishes are vegan, but you can add egg and for breakfast they offer egg and cheese. Loved the shots and the locally brewed kombucha.

Pros: Nice staff, Really good quality food

Great vegetarian food but adapted to foreigners

I had a tasty bowl and enjoyed it. The food is adapted to foreigners to some extent though , a bit more than the Two Little Birds Cafe, but really tasty.

Thank you so much for your review! :D
We're sorry you choose the more freestyle vegan cuisine bowl, instead of one of the 7 plant-based Lao/Thai dishes on our menu, we are very proud of them!
But we are very happy you enjoyed the bowl as well. Thanks for your visit and if you come back please try our fiery Pad Kapao, or our traditional local favourite the Luangprabang Khao Soi😄Nothing 'foreign' about those! ;-)

Such good food and smoothies

I’m really annoyed I forgot to take pictures of our food. This was the nicest food we ate in Luang Prabang. I went with a mix group including none vegans and they agreed! Was very tasty and staff super knowledgeable and friendly

Hi, thanks so much for reviewing us. Sorry we didn't 'wow' you 😔

And thanks for noticing that our ingredients are fresh and healthy. And no, our menu cannot be compared to street food prices, the wood-oven baked sourdough bread you had for example, doesn't come at the same price as bulk bought plain rice. We hope you and other customers understand this.

Enjoy your time in Laos! And maybe next time one of our other dishes, such as our colourful and protein packed vegan savoury bowls, or one of our delicious smoothie bowls with home made granola will leave a better impression 🥲🙏❤

We tried the vegan pad thai and the tofu satay bowl. Both super delicious! The coffees are also great. My bf had the espresso chocolate brownie. Unfortunately it's not vegan, but he said it tastes incredible.

Hi, thank you so much for your review!
We are so sorry about a weird scent though!? We keep the place super clean and this would be immediately addressed had we noticed! We do sometimes have problems with people stepping in things on the street and walking it inside our place though, maybe it was that? Super embarrassing, we will do our very best to stay aware of any unwanted scents in our place.

Great sandwiches!

We loved the tofu scrambled eggs and the peanut tofu sandwich. Nice spot to hang around. They also make nice fruit juices, like the watermelon mint juice and dragon fruit mango juice.

Utterly obsessed , all of our Laos food highlights are from here

We cannot say enough about this little cafe. It’s vegetarian but extremely vegan friendly. We ate here twice a day, almost every day for the 6 nights we spent in Luang Prabang.

We tried almost all of the baguettes, our highlight definitely being the scrambled tofu baguette (with extra vegan garlic mayo). We also had the nutty noodle salad and the super power satay tofu bowl which were both delicious, especially the super power satay bowl!! And the banana pancakes with peanut butter and chocolate are absolutely amazing. The coffee is also great here. The owner, the staff, the atmosphere, the food and the lovely cats and dog sparkles that sometimes make an appearance meant that this place was a huge highlight during our time in Laos.
