Good Vegan Options After a Long Day 👍 - Edit
We stopped here for dinner after a long day of hiking and were really hungry. I initially planned to order the vegan quesadilla, but after seeing some reviews mentioning confusion with regular cheese, I decided to play it safe.
Read moreWe ended up ordering the vegan ceviche and the falafel sandwich with fries. The ceviche was really fresh and flavorful—definitely the highlight of the meal. The falafel sandwich was a bit on the dry side, but still enjoyable overall. They also offer a variety of vegan sauces, which was a nice touch. The mango sauce was my favorite and added a lot of flavor to the meal.
Overall, it’s a solid spot if you’re looking for clearly labeled vegan options in the area. Just worth double-checking ingredients when ordering, but there are enough good choices to make it an easy and satisfying stop.

Very decent vegan options - Edit
Had the vegan quesadilla and vegan nachos. Both were substantial portions and pretty good. Impressed that they had a separate vegan menu. Pricey but so is all food in La Fortuna. Would go back.

Nada de especial… - Edit
Menu vegan/ vegetariano separado. O serviço foi simpático. A comida tinha boa apresentação, mas sem grande sabor… comemos o casado vegan (não tirei foto) e quesadilhas.

Wonderful Find - Edit
We were surprised that they had a separate vegan menu. Easily accommodated our party of 4. Had nice appetizers, tasty lentil and chickpea burger, wonderful quinoa salad and pick your pasta with red sauce.

Pretty solid! - UPDATE they gave me non vegan cheese and said it was vegan. - Edit
Got the vegan quesadilla. Honestly the cheese was so realistic I asked if they maybe gave me the vegetarian on accident. The waiter assured me it was vegan. No coconut taste at all as previous reviews mentioned. Still, hoping it was aactually vegan and… it was pretty incredible! High price point and verrrrryyyyy slow with no one else in restaurant
Read moreOkay so we went back and I got the vegan quesadilla again and the cheese was completely different. Coconut taste is STRONG. If you don’t taste coconut, it’s not vegan. If you are questioning it, send it back. I added inside photo of vegan quesadilla for you to compare if needed. Cheese in truly vegan quesadilla is sparse and extreme coconut taste.

Update… we went back and ordered vegan quesadilla to test it. They gave me the real cheese 100%. This second quesadilla was NOT good. Very intense coconut flavor. If no coconut flavor it’s not the vegan cheese. Huge bummer as I confirmed with the server that mine was vegan and he said yes that’s absolutely the vegan cheese.

A ton of options - Edit
There were a ton of options on a separate vegan/vegetarian menu. I was not a huge fan of my meal but my boyfriend loved his - I’m sure there is something on the menu that I would love, I just didn’t choose the right thing. The portions were also really huge, the servers very kind.

Delicious - Edit
First place we tried in La Forth a after finding it on Happy Cow. I got an oat milk iced latte and my friend got a piña colada (not sure if this was vegan). We got the crema de ayote & the Patacones for appetizers. The Patacones were sooo good! We got the vegan Casado and especial de quinoa. Both were very good, but the Patacones were our favorite! The staff was great and asked about allergies when we ordered which I appreciate as I have an egg allergy.

Yummy! - Edit
We loved this place and came here every day that we could. They have a separate vegan/vegetarian menu that you have to ask for. Although after our first visit they already knew and we didn’t have to ask again. The hummus was amazing… the first time we shared it but it was so good that the future visits we got our own order. The bread alone was to die for. The Greek salad was delicious but for vegan you just have to ask for vegan cheese instead. I also had the nachos which was too much for one person but also very good. Don’t let the picture fool you, there’s a lot of deliciousness buried under the guac! And I tried the falafel sandwich which was good. I got it with fries which were delicious. The service was great here. We are definitely going to miss this place!

Extra vegan+vegetarian menu - Edit
They have a separate menu with vegan and vegetarian options that are clearly labeled. The food was good. Just mention if you don't like cilantro/ coriander because it was also in dishes where we didn't expect it. The portion sizes were too big for us to finish, luckily they have takeaway boxes. We were able to pay by card.

Vegetarian Quesadilla was tasty and the pasta pomodoro and garlic bread was equally as good. Imperial beers but the red wine was poor or not to our taste.

Expensive but fresh food from a varied menu - Edit
Our food was a bit plain and messy to eat, but there were lots of vegan choices from the large menu at this downtown La Fortuna restaurant. For typical Costa Rican food, you could get similar plates with better value elsewhere, but I do have confidence that here they were 100% vegan. Fruit smoothie/juice drinks were huge!

The dedicated vegan menu feautres both local classics land globally inspired comfort dishes - Edit
Chances are, you’ll be driving into Fortuna from the east on your way to see Mount Arenal. And if you’re hungry, keep driving to the west side of town and grab a bite to eat at Green Spoon. After the long 4-hour drive from San Jose through sometimes steep, windy, and pot-hole-ridden roads, The Green Spoon’s casado tipico and vegan burger were delicious and nourishing. The dedicated vegan menu thoughtfully features both local classics, like chifrijo, and globally inspired comfort dishes, like the pasta pomodoro. It’s the perfect welcome after a demanding journey, refueling you for the adventures ahead. #vegan #plantbased #lafortuna #costarica #puravida

Plenty of options but flavour was meh - Edit
We tried the nachos after reading so many good reviews, and whilst we appreciate that they make their vegan cheese in house, it made the whole dish taste of coconut, so we ended up leaving 90% of it uneaten. The patacones were really nice, as was the casada, with the quinoa fritters a really nice touch, but the chifrijo was quite dry and lacked flavour. The burgers that were coming out looked really good and maybe we should have tried them instead - I would be careful about getting the homemade vegan cheese though! Very pricey place, so beware - the casada, patacones, nachos and chifrijo came to 32,000 colones!

There were lots of options. We had the nachos, which were pretty good. I really liked the falafel burger but the quesadilla did not taste the best. It had a lot of veggies in it that we didn’t ask for and weren’t on the menu. The drinks were delicious and the staff was lovely.

Lots of vegan options but could be better - Edit
I liked that the vegan options were clearly labeled and there were so many options. I had the quesadilla and it wasn’t fantastic - seemed like a cooked frozen veggie mix with their house made cheese sauce. I barely had any cheese in my quesadilla too. Maybe some of the other dishes are better but this didn’t stand out for me.
