Vegan options, weird vibe - Edit
Had the vegan Dahl pie and vegan burnt basque cheesecake. The pie was pretty good but couldn’t compete with the one at Milford Road Merchant!
Read moreThe cheesecake was a bit disappointing, I thought it was nice at first but it quickly turned very heavy and bitter tasting (maybe I just haven’t had a burnt basque cheesecake before?!). I didn’t finish it which is a big deal for me.
My boyfriend got the vegan wrap and said it was quite good (he’s a harsh critic).
They do seem to have a decent number of vegan options, but I didn’t like the vibe of the place. Aesthetically I found it unappealing but their table numbers also have cattle ear-tags dangling off them, and meat pies are named horrible names like ‘Buffy the chook slayer’. Vegan options but not a vegan friendly atmosphere in my opinion.

Delicious food - Edit
Many vegan options: over several days we tried their vegan breakfast options, cheesecake, pies and cinnamon roll. Everything was delicious. It's a busy place but the service is very fast and friendly.
Read moreTheir kitchen closed 2pm. After this time you can't get cooked meals but still baked goods from the closet (pies, rolls...).

Small Town Stop - Edit
Nice find in a small town. I think I was there just after lunch rush so they seemed to be out of a lot of items. I had the vegan roll which was basically a veggie burger, which had good flavor but needed more greens or a salad maybe plus a lemon custard type bar dessert that was quite good.

A surprise visit - Edit
I did not expect to find vegan options here. They had a vegan wrap and a bap and also a curry lentil hot pie. I also saw a sign for cookies that were vegan but they were sold out.

Need for Greed - Edit
Cool place. The Greedy Breakfast has a vegan option, with mushrooms, tofu, spinach, potato, toast, and specialty baked beans. Aside from that, there's a couple of vegan options on display, like a vegan wrap, that are pretty cheap compared to similar options elsewhere in NZ.

Good vegan option and quite cheap - Edit
We were glad to see 2 vegan options. We came late so there were no more sweets in the cabinet so we don't know if they would have something vegan or not.
Read moreWe had the vegan wrap which was OK, curry spices with chickpeas inside.
Pros: Prices are ok

Nice breakfast - Edit
I got an almond milk latte and the vegan Greedy Cow breakfast which is tofu, spinach, mushrooms, beans, toast, and a hash brown type square. The coffee was nice and the breakfast was pretty nice. Not amazing but pretty good. They have a lot of other vegan options so I'd probably pick one of the sandwiches or wraps next time.

Great coffee, good food - Edit
The Greedy Cow seems to be one of the only affordable options at Lake Tekapo. The coffee was good, I nabbed some freshly baked cinnamon scrolls and muffins for only $5 each and there were a couple of vegan breakfast options. Atmosphere is nice, they have large wooden tables and the place looks new and comfortable.

Yummy vegan wrap - Edit
Vegan wrap (with chick pea and spinach) is yummy. Served warmed. Sadly returned the next day after kitchen had closed so could not try the other vegan options on the menu. Quite a popular spot. Probably the only place in tekapo with decent vegan options which are clearly labelled.

Had lots of vegan options. I had the smashed avo with edamame and mushrooms which was amazing. My friend had a sandwich from the cabinet which she said was really good too. Venue did smell of bacon but had outdoor seating. Everything is clearly labeled as vegan option available etc so very easy to navigate.

very vegan friendly - Edit
they had one vegan sandwich on display and two vegetarian brekki options that can be made vegan. they also sell kombuchas and juices in the fridge.
Read morethe staff was very accommodating towards our vegan requests. I had a hot and iced chai latte with almond milk and plant-based choc cookies (packaged, not made inhouse). We also ordered the avo toast with edamame and mushrooms. it was also very busy. I guess it’s the most popular cafe in this town.
Pros: friendly staff, reasonable prices
