Meh, little disappointed after great reviews - Edit

I got 4 coffee (they didn't have caramel in stock for a caramel latte :( ) at the Grassy Hopper and also ordered a vegan burrito wrap for take out, but ended up with 4 coffee which didn't have so much flavor (2 dairy coffee and 2 coconut milk coffee). No one really likes the coffee. After opening my box with -what was supposed to be a vegan burrito wrap- I found a Asian noodle salad instead. It was good, but the portion was too large for me to enjoy the entire meal. I also had the choco peanut cake, that one was pretty good though! After all the 5-star reviews I thought this place would be superb, I think I got my standards too high.

Pros: noodle salad was good, choco peanut cake was good

Cons: flavor of coffee, wrong order

DELICIOUS - Edit

Burgers- spicy chickpea and sweet potato with homemade vegan cheese and fried sweet potatoes great and delicious. Coffee /espresso/ was really excellent, one of the best I've ever drunk. Nice people, nice place. 💚

Nothing Special - Edit

After reading all the great reviews, I was really excited about going to The Grassy Hopper in Valletta, but I have to say I was pretty disappointed.

I wanted to have a salad that contained avocado, but we were told they didn't have any avocado. That meant I had to exclude some other choices as well. I chose another salad, but again there was an ingredient that was missing. I don't really see the purpose of having items on a handwritten menu on a blackboard if you can't actually make them. Finally, I went for the vegan millet tabbouleh and hummus salad.

Right after us, another lady wanted to order something that was available and had to order something else instead, but she actually got her order before we did.

The salad I had was nothing spectacular, and I'm generally not a fan of naming a dish after another popular dish and then completely changing it. The name millet tabbouleh had me expecting tabbouleh with millet instead of bulgur, but what I got had nothing to do with tabbouleh. It was decent, but nothing spectacular.

I did like the coconut they served here, and the fact that they sold several products like household items which is pretty convenient if you're not able to go to one of the organic stores on the island.

Pros: Sells vegan household items, Central location

Cons: Slow service, Not all items on the menu were actually available

Great fresh juices, veg*n meals, and desserts - Edit

A cool oasis in the heart of Valletta, this branch of the Grassy Hopper rocks the same great food and juices as its parent in Sliema. The vibe here was a little more chop-chop than the relaxed original, but still friendly enough. There are several tables in the air-conditioned interior, plus one lone table outside with prime people-watching position.

amazing place! - Edit

This place is awesome with great food and also a few other products like washing detergent, eco friendly toothbrushes etc.
They also sell some chocolates from Theobroma - which is an amazing raw vegan choc shop 2 minutes away !
The sweet potato and black bean burger is delicious with vegan cheese and tastes like healthy comfort food! The smoothies are good too.

Pros: lots of vegan options, even though it's a vegetari

Cons: some smoothies are a little pricey at €6, but they

Go for the Smoothies - Edit

The smoothies are excellent. The rest of the dishes are a hit and miss. The service could be better. They're generally nice people, but whoever the manager is always looks miserable. That being said, it's definitely a good option for vegans and vegetarians visiting Valletta.

Pros: Amazing Smoothies, One of the few places with a solid vegan menu

Cons: Service could've been better

Perfect - Edit

They said everything is vegan :) Tried two different wraps (asian and burrito), both beautiful, and side potatoes (extra fine sweet potatoes and potatoes), and their home-made vegan cheese which was great. Also their fizzy drinks (cola and elderflower, both really good). They don't serve alcohol, which is also good. The portions were big and we went away totally full (my boyfriend and me ordered two main dishes and one side dish).
The space is small (one table outside, a few tables inside, and 3 tables on the first floor) and that makes it super cosy. Roots reggae was playing, which made it all pretty perfect for us :)
The staff was very helpful and friendly. We had a nice time and will definitely go back again.

Pros: Main dishes and fast food to choose from, Not pricey, good value (big portions), Nice atmosphere

Cons: No cons

good place for lunch! - Edit

We had a burger and burrito here, and really liked the place. It had a good vibe, kind staff, plenty of vegan options and it was very tasty. Burger was rather big and the bun was perfectly crispy. Found out too late they also served coffee and tea along some strange health juices I'm never really into that were exclusively on the menu. ;-)

It was okay... - Edit

The Grassy Hopper is one of those places who are more concerned with serving 'trendy' vegan food than actual tasty, substantial meals. At least in my opinion. A lot of the food was raw (Malta is very behind on the times and seem to be just catching up with this trend) and they served funny sweet potato and carrot chips rather than potato chips. Sure, I can't really blame them for trying to be different and offer healthy alternatives but when you're the only half decent place to buy vegan food for miles around, you should offer real substantial food rather than soggy, tasteless alternatives that tasted as if they've been sat around for hours.

I ordered the lentil burrito which was actually tasty. The 'cheese' was made from cashews and they had a beef-style filling made from pulses and grains. The inside of the burrito was very good but the tortilla was a bit hard and chewy. I know I sound very critical and mean but I had a traumatic experience trying to find nice food in Valletta, and I want these guys to improve, okay?

Despite their weird menu and behind-the-times trend, it was okay. The staff were friendly, the place was clean (waayyyy better than Gugar. Don't go to Gugar) and the burrito was nice so I'll give them that.

If you like their sweet treats I'd 100% recommend their sister bakery, Theobroma, a couple of streets along.

Pros: Tasty burrito, Clean

Cons: Need to offer more substantial food, More flavours needed

Great food in the heart of Valetta. I had lentil noodles with peanut sauce and veggies and it was a very nicely balanced meal. The portions were also pretty large and I had to share my meal. Highly recommend.

Good food, too small - Edit

Great food, pretty much all vegan. A bit more frantic than the Gzira branch and can get so busy people get turned away. We had to wait a while for or burgers but they were well worth it when they came.

Pros: Almost all vegan, Good tasty food, Inexpensive

Cons: Too small, Staff too busy for pleasantries, Service could have been quicker

Absolutely lovely! - Edit

The restaurant in Valletta is small, but the food is delicious! I had a Mexican wrap (my husband had the falafel one) and we shared a gorgeous salad of quinoa and avocado (among other things!). They serve raw desserts (also available at a small hole-in-the-wall called Theobroma, which we visited several times, during our stay in Valletta). A must visit if you are in this part of the world!

Pros: The food!, The desserts!, The atmosphere!
