Serves meat, vegan options available. Traditional South African restaurant with vegetarian curries and soup that can be made vegan upon request. Specify vegan when ordering. Limited choices nearby. Open Mon-Sun 5:00pm-8:00pm.
In Graskop, it wasn't easy to find a restaurant with vegan options. At The Glasshouse, I inquired via WhatsApp whether the vegetarian curry contained milk or eggs. I received a very quick response confirming that it contained neither. We made a reservation.
The welcome was very warm. It turned out that reserving a table was a good idea, as the restaurant was fully booked.
The vegetarian curry is vegan, and the vegetarian bobotie (a traditional South African dish) can be served vegan upon request (without the egg topping). I would like to highlight that soy granules were used in both the curry and the bobotie.
The curry was served with small bowls of coconut flakes, tomatoes, and chutney. We enjoyed both dishes very much.
The service was excellent.
Abe is an experience in himself.
Unfortunately, there was no vegan dessert, but maybe that will change if enough people ask for it.
Highly recommended—a highlight of our South Africa trip!
