Delicious Sunday Roast

The Sunday roast here was very tasty. I got the butternut squash pastry thing and it was great. I thought the portion was a bit on the small side but I was definitely full afterwards. Will defo be going back to try some of their other options

Lovely vibe

We went for breakfast and had smoked tofu and rosti sandwiches. They were incredibly tasty. Vegan margarine was also served with it and you could also have sauces. It’s a really lovely place to eat.

Pros: Great food options, Mainly vegan, Lovely owner and staff

Cons: It’s winter and it was a bit parky!

Best Sunday Roast ever

Without a doubt the best Sunday roast I've ever had (apart from my mums). Even my daughter loves the mushroom Wellington and she hates mushrooms. Vegan cauliflower cheese and Yorkshire pudding were the cherry on the top.

Most of the menu is vegan but everything is vegetarian. Lovely hearty meals.

Pros: Delicious food , Great atmosphere , Lots of vegan cake

A Hidden Gem!

Found this place thanks to Happy Cow, and what a find! Had an excellent brunch, the morning after a giid night out, and it really hit the spot. 3 big vegan breakfasts and the Chick -a-filla with fries. All really, really good. Love the decor and music, and it was relaxed and family friendly (had a baby with us). Will be back!

Amazing v-bistro and community hub

The gherkin is a great little spot if you are in the south of manchester, easily reachable by bus or a couple of minutes on the train from the centre. A small but beautifully created menu with largely vegan food (a few non but all veggie at the very least) and a great roast on sundays, wonderful vegan cakes from local bakeries. Chippy tuesdays with a free chip butty with a drink purchase is a must (can upgrade to a tofish and chips for extra monies). Amazing cocktails and a nice selection of beers and spirits available. Often lots of community seasonal events, DJ nights with different themes, film showings and all sorts going on - check the Facebook page. There is a kindness box outside full of things from local people for people to take if they need them - an effective mini food bank that's always open. The staff are friendly and venue a labour of love - every trip to the gherkin is an absolute treat!

Other small details is that the venue is fairly small with a covered front area and a gorgeous little yard to the rear. They are happy to cater for big groups (as we needed for my housemates birthday - Jamie the owner is very accommodating and helps to make things special😄)

So close to being excellent

Initially when I reviewed this place the food was limited but I'm updating it now as they now have full menus- which is nearly all vegan. All the food I've tried has been great. They still have plenty cakes and a large drinks menu. The staff are really friendly and prices are really reasonable.

I'm so close to loving it here but service can be exceptionally slow. I've seen people leave before their drinks arrive. I've waited 40mins for food and 15mins to order a drink. And I've been in a couple of times in the morning and the staff have been talking loudly across the whole cafe, it's like sitting next to a loud group in a bar when you're having breakfast.

I'd still recommend it for all meals, coffee and cake or drinks but expect service to be a bit questionable at times, though still friendly.

Love their menu

The menu is now quite extensive, all vegan, with loads of great breakfast options including tofu scramble with a full vegan. My faves are the small plates, mushroom croquettes, panelle dips and the onion rings. Obviously their beer is great too. Can't wait to try the roast!
