Friesian fantastic! - Edit
I had the vegan Mac and Cheeze which was great. They had a seasonal Strawberry Rhubarb Cashew cheesecake that was well worth the $14 cost. It was so amazing.

A few unique vegan options - Edit
We stopped in for our anniversary dinner. We had the Spaghetti Pesto and the Mushroom Flatbread. The Spaghetti Pesto was flavorful but a bit too salty. The Flatbread was good but had too much balsamic vinegar and could have used more of the other toppings. We wish we had room to try some of the vegan desserts but we were too full. Nice atmosphere but a little loud. Outdoor seating is available.

Elevated Gastropub - Edit
The Friesian is a smaller, cozy restaurant, offering a decent selection of vegan options.
Read moreThe atmosphere is the standard industrial bohemian of most breweries; however, the smaller size gives it a more intimate charm.
There are a few vegan options on the menu. The vegan nachos are a highlight with a nice mix of vegan chorizo and nacho nut cheese.
Then there is the vegan mac and cheese. The vegan mac and cheese perplexes me. The cheese tastes full. However, the noodle choice is chaotic. They use multiple types of noodles in the same dish. I know, I get it. This sounds very juvenile of me, but it just feels… wrong. If they stuck to macaroni noodles this dish would immensely improve.
I would recommend The Friesian to a plant-based patron for a date night with one other.
Pros: Vegan options, Vegan nachos, Cocktail options
Cons: Not entirely Vegan, Multiple noodles in the Mac and Cheese

The dessert!! - Edit
My daughters, 3 year old granddaughter and I came here just for the brownie sundae after seeing the pictures on Happy Cow. Wow! This dessert did not disappoint! Warm brownie, cold creamy ice cream drizzled with a caramel sauce. Yum! A little pricey, but worth the splurge.

Vegan friendly gastropub in west Michigan - Edit
The Friesian does not disappoint. They have many great vegan options with a clearly labeled menu. Some of the vegan options include mac and cheese, pasta, nachos, salad and vegan desserts! They also have really great cocktails and the espresso martini is dairy free! I haven’t had anything there that I haven’t loved.

Very Good - Edit
My wife and I each got the Carbonara for dinner. The pasta was very good. Service was a little slow. Dinner was somewhat pricey considering the dish doesn’t include any sides or salad. All in all a good experience, but not the best we had in Grand Rapids.

Did not disappoint - Edit
The interior is industrial European with clean lines and minimalist design. Erin K. was our waitstaff and she was friendly and helped me choose between two of their vegan options. I decided on the PLT and I was not disappointed - I would definitely get this again forgoing trying something new. I had The Matador for my adult beverage, very refreshing. I decided against a side because they have a warm brownie sundae for dessert I had to have. I made the right choice. Hidden gem. Reservations accepted on Open Table.

Excellent food, excellent service - Edit
This place is awesome. I came here for brunch once before the pandemic, and though they only had one option, it was great. Came here again for dinner and got the vegan skillet Mac and cheese as an appetizer, and had the PLT - it was fantastic! They rotate their menu frequently so double check before you go!

Love it! - Edit
The Friesian Gastro Pub always has a few vegan options on the menu and I’ve often seen dessert listed too! Last time I went I got the Vegan Carbonara and it was great.
