Set in a renovated barn, The Fold Cafe serves organic seasonal breakfasts and lunches using produce from the Market Garden on site. The menu changes to utilise the organic seasonal veg. Expect to find tagines, soups, pastries, and other vegetable based dishes. Also has organic coffees, cakes and pastries. The menu is mainly plant-based, and the pastries are vegan. On site there are independent shops and studios, nature trails, a therapy centre, and a plethora of workshops, yoga and community events. First Sunday of each month there is a big Market. Open Tue-Sun 09:00-16:30.

Breakfast - Edit
OH had the Full Fold breakfast. Tofu scramble, toast, vine cherry tomatoes, potatoes, and baked beans. He enjoyed it, although the scramble was a bit dry & the toast was on the cusp from bread to toast. I had the Apple, walnut & cinnamon porridge-which was yummy-although quite pricey. Also oat cappuccino’s & a vegan almond croissant to take away. Situated in a rural shopping yard, there s also a farm shop with lots of local veg, organic/vegan items & eco toiletries.

New menu & new owners, we had sausage roll & beans. The roll was delicious- not your usual ‘mock meat’ effort- very tasty. Had a pain au chocolat to take away-it’s massive and will serve 2!!
Since our last visit they’ve opened up a nature trail from the car park, A nice addition of a couple of routes to burn off some calories
Really nice service again too- dog friendly 🐕

Nice wholesome food and many vegan options. I had the chili loaded wedges which was very filling. Lots of vegan cakes and pastries too. I took home the sticky toffee Biscoff slice which was delicious.

Tasty, hot, filling vegan lunches at this cosy vegetarian café - Edit
Great value, friendly and welcoming, with plenty of parking. We had chilli & cheeze with wedges / lentil stew, both of which were generous portions and tasty. Tea with soya milk available. Ordered at the counter, and take service was good. We would return.

Slow service, average tasting food. - Edit
This place has the potential to be great but is let down by how it’s run… you could die of old age in the queue to be served. Then the food takes forever to get to you… my vegan frittata was bland and lukewarm.

Pros: Has vegan offerings
Cons: Bland food, Sloooooow

Sorry you didn't have a good experience with us. We have a new team on board now. I'm an award winning head chef who trained at Riverford Field Kitchen, I promise our food is not bland now! We utilise the best organic produce from our market garden and elevate it to showstopping vegcentric dishes!

Delicious salad, really welcoming place - Edit
I tried one of the rainbow bowl salads here and some vegan chocolate fudge cake, which was probably the best I've had! Staff are really chatty and told me about the farm here where most of the salad is grown organically. Everything here is organic too which is an extra bonus if you are eco conscious. Coffee was excellent too, will definitely return

Worth a 2nd chance - Edit
I came here after seeing my options on happy cow within the area, and after seeing so many positive reviews on Google I decided to give it a go.
Read moreI decided to order the aubergine and chickpea burger that was not shown on the menu but on a sign above the till. While waiting for my food I had a quick look around and saw there were a few independent shops behind the cafe. There is also a farm shop next to the cafe (not completely vegetarian). When my food arrived it was well presented, however I could not taste any aubergine within the patty, it tasted simply like a falafel burger. It was mild in flavour, not unpleasant but could have benefited from a different sauce instead of hummus. The accompanying salad had beetroot leaves, something I hadn't had before which was nice. However the salad was not only dressed with oil, but also with what tasted like the vinegar from a jar of pickled beetroot, which I wasn't a fan of.
After I finished my meal I was a bit disappointed as I was expecting something more. While cleaning my hands I then noticed that on my plate were bubbles from washing up liquid (see picture)! I found this very unprofessional, it might not be a 5 star restaurant but you should check the plates before sending them out the kitchen. Another thing which might be considered minor but that I personally didn't like, was that the girl who served me placed the cutlery directly on the table and the napkin separately, instead of cutlery ON the napkin.
I went for a walk behind the cafe, and there are a few you can take which was nice. They hold a market on the 1st Sunday of each month, that I intend to go and check out soon. Overall the place seems really cool, so I’ll give the cafe another go, but for now I can only give it 3/5.
Pros: Seasonal menu, Independent shops + farm shop on site, Walks behind cafe
Cons: Underwhelming flavours, Dubious hygiene practices
