Food I would make at home in a hurry

They do say home cooked meals, and they aren't lying. This is food I would make for myself if I were just hungry and in a hurry. I would be embarrassed to serve it to anyone else. The tahini mushrooms were waaay to spicy, and not very flavorful, and my boyfriend's chili was almost tasteless. The dinners were very small (almost like appetizers really), and did not fill us up at all, and we had to eat more later. However, the full English breakfast we had the next day met expectations, but had predictable foods like white bread toast and Linda McCartney sausages. The American pancakes were very good (As a Californian I do know genuine American pancakes) and tasted like ones you'd get at an American diner. I definitely wouldn't go for dinner again, but definitely for breakfast!

Pros: Affordable, more than a few vegan choices, breakfast

Cons: plain tasting- unexciting, small portions, crowded

Always good!

It seems that Egg has been here for ever (thank goodness!) It is now mostly vegan with just a few vegetarian items - and always a good selection. I've eaten here many times in the past, but just popped in today for a coffee and a delicious cake.
New visitors, note that it doesn't look inviting from the road, and access is up lots of stairs, but well worth the effort!

Pros: Mostly vegan

Cons: Access

The blind Scouse goes down a treat yet again

Popped in to the egg while out and about and ordered the blind Scouse again. I don’t know what they have done to the recipe this tip but the tweek is certainly a winner!

The Egg is simply the best

Our whole family love the Egg cafe. It’s just so full of love and delicious home cooked food and the vibe in there is so homely and friendly. Always something scrumptious and seasonal on the menu as well as the staples year round

Pros: Vegan roast dinner , Hummus and pitta , Soup of the day

Hearty, filling food.

Been here a couple of times, not a huge choice but basic things I like - chilli, pasta, garlic bread, salads. Staff are friendly & service good.

Pros: 100% vegan, Tasty & filling food.

Cons: Not accessible.

Incredible vegan cheesey garlic bread

This is a lovely little cafe. Can't actually remember what soup I had I think it was red pepper and tomato? But I had garlic bread with cheese and wow it was delicious!! Would definitely recommend giving that a try if you want some good old comfort food!

Pros: Friendly staff, Good range of vegan options, Good value

Cons: Not accessible, Menu difficult to read as on board behind counter

Healthy, nutritious, perfect for summer

The Egg Cafe is probably my favourite so far in Liverpool. The atmosphere was really chilled out and the cafe is quite hidden, so I don't think you would know it was there unless you looked it up. It was hot, but there was such a lovely view from the top, where you could eat and look out. The staff were super accommodating and friendly, we came back twice!!

The portions were a little big for me, but it's perfect if you're super hungry. The food is so fresh, summery and definitely homemade. Loved that you could buy beer too. Definitely coming again!!

Pros: Affordable, homemade food, Beautiful atmosphere and view, Great staff

Cons: Portions were a little too big for me

We had the roasted broccoli soup with bread and butter which was delicious and lots of it.
We were able to sit by the open windows as it was a warm day this was very welcome.

Pros: Lots of choice, Good value, Good size portions

Nice cafe but could be better

I like this cafe and always like to visit at least once when visiting Liverpool but I do feel like the menu could do with sprucing up a little, and more vegan options adding to it. Don't feel like they're is enough choice for vegans, or if they're is the menu isn't very easy to gather which are vegan and which are just veggie. Also if your with anybody with mobility issues then getting to the cafe isn't easy as they're is alot of stairs to climb to get there.

Pros: Great surroundings , Quirky, Few vegan options

Cons: Vegan options could be better, Lack of vegan cakes, Not great for people with mobility issues.

Very good

The soup portion was shocking it was so big. I had the quiche of the day and it came with salad, chickpeas and some pasta salad as well. The soup was a bit bland and I had to add two salt packs which wasn’t a problem. It came with a drink and cake too. I unfortunately left the cake somewhere by accident and couldn’t try it ):

Great Breakfast and Great Charm

Had breakfast today at a place I haven't been for so long. For a long time @theeggcafe was one of the only places to get vegan food in Liverpool. Its really good to see them still going strong 💪. I had the large vegan breakfast which came with 2 sausages, 2 hash browns, scrambled tofu, mushrooms, 2 half tomatoes and a Thicc piece of toast. It was really nice. Very flavourful and clean tasting. It also comes with a free tea, coffee or juice.

The Egg itself is still as I remember, unfortunately that means it's not the place to go if you have mobility issues as there are quite a lot of stairs to climb and no disabled toilet access. It's also more of a communal eating experience, with people sharing long tables.

Pros: Vegan options, Tasty food, Great vibe

Cons: Slightly expensive for what it is, Sells non-vegan food, Not very accessible

Under new management - thankfully still lovely!

If you don’t mind walking up lots of stairs and sharing your table, then the Egg will reward you with a massive plate of yummy - albeit reheated - homely food.

Recommend the 3 course special (You may need to take dessert home in a doggy bag!)

Menu changes daily with a few daily faithful s like the mmmmm bean burger

Updated from previous review on 2019-01-26

Pros: Lots of vegan options, Loads of salads with every meal, Cheap & delicious

Cons: Food is reheated, Quiche is dry & bland (all else is good!), Lots of stairs

Cosy place for just a drink or for a full meal

Egg is a staple of the city centre and a nice place to go for breakfast, a coffee with friends or to change scenery when working. Different food daily and their cakes are especially great #Veganuary

Pros: Lots of vegan options, Big variety of dishes, Nice atmosphere

Cons: Would be nice if the daily specials were online

My all time favourite

This oasis is so perfect and I never want it to end. When I'm up there, I feel like I'm transported back to 1979 Vermont amongst the vegetarian hippies! This is the perfect place for chilling out with a book and delicious food. My gf and lactose intolerance makes it difficult to find safe food - but I never have to worry at Egg. Come discover this wonderful space for creatives.

Pros: Brilliant vegan and gf choices!, Awesome welcoming vibe

Cons: A bit expensive

The atmosphere of the place was great, loved the decor. The food was good, very healthy and refreshing. Thought it was a bit expensive though!
I went again and got the soup of the day with vegan cheese on toast and it was super tasty and warming.

Fab place

The egg cafe is tucked away and as you go up the staircase it seems a bit suss and run down. But the place is lovely. Really quirky, hippy vibe. The food is always slamming, great salads, great cakes, always fresh water to help yourself too. Staff are so friendly and helpful. I always eat here when I’m in a Liverpool, so much so I hardly go anywhere else! Pizza night is ace and they do some unusual flavours. Doesn’t get any better than this!

Pros: Everything

Cons: Nothing

Oldschool Lunch/Brunch Spot

Def a homely feel, food is healthy and has more traditional vegetarian/vegan options. The soup and panini deal for £7.50 is solid and the paninis are nice.

Pros: Plenty of options, Cheap, Really close to Lime St Station

Cons: Not the most avant garde menu

Simple, rustic and tasty

Visited here whilst on a hen do in Liverpool. The bridal party was also vegan and so we got recommended here as we were staying close by. Simple and tasty food & large portions. I had the vegan quiche that came with a salad and pasta salad too. Would like to try the Sunday roast if ever I’m visiting again!

Pros: Majority of the menu is vegan , Large portions, Tasty homemade food
