Best vegan meal in a while!

We went for vegan Thursday and it was brilliant! There were 2 vegan mains on the vegan Thursday and a further 2-3 on the regular menu. We started with pita and lemon + basil hummus, the hummus was divine and I’ll have to try and recreate it at home!
I had the vegan filo feta and spinach pie, which was great and came with the most amazing tomato sauce. I had roasted peaches with cinnamon + almonds and elderflower sorbet. I was glad that the sorbet was an interesting flavour and not the usual raspberry/mango etc. Vegan wines are clearly labelled on the menu and there is a great selection. Staff were very friendly despite being busy. I was also shocked when the bill came at how reasonably priced everything was! My main was only £12.75 I think, which was great considering most places will charge unreasonable prices for vegan food. Overall we had a lovely night and I would love to go back next time I’m in the area.

Pros: Amazing food, Labelled vegan wines, Reasonably priced

Cons: None

Not many vegan options

I was under the impression that vegan Thursdays would mean mostly vegan food on the menu - that wasn’t really the case - I think there were 4 options for mains with plenty more options for non-vegans and no specials. I’m not even sure the menu was any different to any other day of the week. I had the butternut squash and bean filo parcels which were good, but nothing special. My partner had the chickpea burger, I had a try of it and it was so salty it was almost inedible. Other feedback was that the cauliflower vegan dish was also good and the cod cheek dish was bland. All expensive at around £18 per main. There were 1 or 2 vegan desserts. I think we enjoyed the desserts more than the mains.

I would expect a much higher quality for the price and I don’t think this is a good example of how good vegan food can be. I felt a little bit responsible for taking the family there after reading the rave reviews on here. Something must have changed significantly at this restaurant since the previous reviews were written. It’s the only explanation I can think of.

Great vegan roast

Had a really lovely nut roast for Sunday lunch and there were a few vegan options on the menu to choose from. Also loved that they gave a discount if you have oat milk in your hot drink, instead of charging extra!

Pros: Several tasty vegan options, Imaginative vegan options

Cons: Quite expensive

Tasty vegan options

Dinner for four. The vegan options were tasty but expensive for what they are. Our friends had fish which had to go back because it smelt terrible. They both ended up having the vegan option instead.

Highly recommend the manager swaps the daylight bulbs in the dining room to tungsten (2700k on the box). The daylight bulbs are cold, bright and not at all welcoming. Cold lighting makes it feel like a cheap bar in Eastern Europe.

Pros: Good vegan options, Great staff, Good location

Cons: Quite expensive , Lighting is terrible in the main restaurant

On a Sunday lunch they also offer a vegan and gluten free nutroast.

Brilliant place to stay and eat

This is a lovely pub with three rooms and a beautiful garden. There is always more than one vegan option on the menu and staff are very helpful. The chickpea burgers on the lunch menu are particularly good. Dairy-free milk options available for breakfast and coffees. They have a clear commitment to the environment and avoid single-use plastics etc. A lovely place to visit.

Pros: Beautiful surroundings, Good food, several options, Friendly and helpful staff
