Average, with shoddy service

Food. Vegan cottage pie, and vegan fudge cake and ice-cream. The cottage pie and gravy was mediocre, but the chips (more like fries really…) and peas were nice. The chocolate fudge cake with chocolate ice-cream was nice, but the cake could have done with being a bit warmer than it was. Bloody massive portions, I’ll give them that! 😲

However!!! The initial person behind the bar didn’t even acknowledge me when I went to order 😡 He was pouring drinks for a group of people not at the bar, so he was busy, but I was right in front of him and a simple “I’ll be with you shortly.” would have made all the difference. Eventually a second person arrived, who apologised profusely and went out of his way to provide better service.

An attempt at usurping my table was made by an older couple while I was ordering. My hoodie was on the chair and my phone on the table. I simply sat next to them and picked my phone up. They got the message. I mean really - how hard is it to just look and realise that someone is sitting there?! 🤦

I probably wouldn’t go back to be honest. The service was haphazard and the food average. The regulars give non-regulars funny looks (which I personally witnessed with several out of town visitors.) It’s not an overly welcoming place 😢

Pros: Plenty of choices, Large portions

Cons: Haphazard service, Rude customers

Some nice options

We popped in for a drink on visiting the abbey but spotted some vegan options on the menu. We already had plans but would absolutely would have eaten there otherwise. It's a lovely friendly pub, welcomes dogs and people alike. Pics attached of the menu.

Pros: Reasonably priced meals , Decent cellar work- nice beer (check barnivore)
