Paid the cruelty free tax!

Was disappointed as I looked forward to my tasty vegan pie - what was not mentioned when I ordered was that as a vegan this would not include the mash. Likewise my partner had the vegan burger (no fries for vegans!) - we were however charged the same price! On querying this - I was informed I had extra veg instead (appeared
to be a couple of bits of broccoli) and my partner extra salad (boring no dressing) - I felt quite sorry for the waiter at this point because he kind of agreed with me so did not pursue further. Fab surroundings though! Go for a drink only!

Embellished in History

A stunningly ornate bar. I’ve never seen anything like this in my life. Why it’s on Happy Cow I’ve no idea but it was a pleasure to visit and experience a proper old time Belfast Boozer

Pros: Great Guinness

Cons: Madri on draft, Coors on draft , Carlsberg on draft

Nice food in lovely setting

We ate here on a Monday night so it wasn’t too busy but still plenty of tables. Only one starter was vegan then either a cottage pie or plant based burger for mains. We had the Mediterranean tart starter and cottage pie which were both really nice and good value. Nice bottle of wine so able to sit and relax after meal to drink this. Staff friendly and helpful and happy to check if soup was vegan that day (it wasn’t, but good they checked). Amazing setting downstairs, dinning room is upstairs which is let impressive setting but still very nice

Disappointing

I was looking forward to visiting this with it being an historic but unfortunately they seem to take an old fashioned view to vegan food too and it was rather disappointing.
Firstly, there was really only one vegan option. It was a sweet potato pie but it wasnt very nice and had very little potato with it. I think the idea is to make you buy the rather expensive side dishes but that wasn't made clear at all.
The service was slow. Very hard to get our waitresses attention to even order more drinks. It was quite busy but not full so it shouldn't have been a problem.
Finally, there is not a single vegan dessert on offer. Why do restaurants do this?
Overall the experience was pretty mediocre. The worst place we ate in Belfast in my opinion.

Cons: Only one vegan option which wasn't very nice, No vegan desserts, Poor and slow service

Absolutely beautiful historic bar with vegan options. Be sure to book one of the private booths in advance if you plan to go. Wonderful place to visit.
