Pleasant surprise

Great seeded sweet potato tart to start and equally good coconut and chocolate tart to follow. Staff friendly, room ok and cost ok (possibly a little expensive but doesn't seem to be much competion).

Pros: Food hot and really tasty , Staff friendly but not over attentive, Room fairly busy but quiet enough

Cons: Small portion of veg and chips with main course , Small portion of vegan ice cream with desert

Hidden vegan menu

We stayed here for a couple of nights while doing a bit of hiking in the Galloway Hills. I knew they had a vegan menu as I'd seen it mentioned on Happy Cow but when you walk into the restaurant you really wouldn't know it! The menu they hand you doesn't mention any vegan dishes, there's nothing telling you to ask for the vegan menu and the staff didn't mention it! But it really does exist! And it offers four vegan mains which is great for a pub in a small town in Scotland!

You can choose from a vegan roast, a vegan burger, a penang curry or a sweet potato & mushroom tart. We had the first couple of options which were pretty decent if not amazing. Expect chips with everything - it's that kind of place!

Pros: Four vegan mains, Friendly staff

Cons: Don't promote their vegan options, Restaurant a bit soulless - eat in the bar instead

Awesome Vegan Food

A great selection of reasonably priced food. Great portion sizes and speedy service. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.

Lovely place, lovely staff and lovely meal

I had the Breaded Mushroom starter and the Roast, starter was great, main was better, nice portion, too stuffed for ice cream

Pros: Separate vegan menu

Cons: Only ice cream or sorbet for dessert

Great food

We’ve visited twice now and the food has been delicious both times. The desserts are great and the drinks are reasonably priced. The service is a little slow. Great for family meals with omnis!

Pros: 1 started, 3 mains, 3 desserts , Great alcohol selection and prices

Cons: Service can be slow

Unexpected Vega treat!

We found this place looking for vegetarian dinner while the car was charging. Every item was well thought through and delicious. Several vegan option. Extremely cheap for UK standards in general and this quality in particular.
We really liked the staff as well.

A welcome, unexpected find

My wife and I broke a journey here with a meal in its pleasantly modernised restaurant, “Knights”, having discovered online it has a separate vegan menu (and gluten- and dairy-free ones). Its Puy lentil roast with baked potatoes and vegetables was probably the best vegan meal we had on a 10 day holiday in Galloway and the Isle of Arran. The staff were welcoming and helpful. Congratulations to the chef and management!
