Lovely little quirky place

Loved the atmosphere, but careful ordering anything listed on menu that “suggests” animal free like the “get stuffed no animal balls were hurt in this -crafty’s succulent vegan meatballs in a toasty garlic ciabatta” it comes with nachos and cheese sauce.

Being labeled vegan meat balls one thinks the cheese sauce would be too but no!; you need to inform them you want a vegan meal otherwise they give you a animal cheese sauce.

Being typical paranoid vegan I questioned it at bar and the friendly staff said no it’s not, you need to ask for it to be vegan, although clearly labeled vegan on menu, he did say he’ll check with the chef for me. After an exchange of questions to the kitchen I heard “not our fault” and the chef came out with a look for an argument, tbh just was asking if it’s something we can eat.

Also it doesn’t say it’s spicy tomato sauce 🌶 so we ate as much as we could and the meatballs, the bread was lovely though and would have eaten the lot had we not due to medical reasons need to watch spicy food.

Menu is a bit quirky as the location so my advice enjoy the place but make it clear you are vegan.

Pros: Amazing atmosphere, Cozy seating upstairs, Nice front staff.

Cons: Don’t assume sides listed are vegan.

Not the best

We visited and loved the idea of the vegan cheeseboard. However after ordering and paying, I found they didn’t have the drink option I’d asked for, and a few minutes later they informed me they weren’t making sandwiches that evening. The thing is, they had all the other options available which included the components of the sandwich, so I wasn’t really sure why they wouldnt make my friend a sandwich. My friend didn’t want anything else, so I asked for a full refund. They then spent 15 minutes trying to sort a refund, and couldn’t work it out, granted they did refund in full in cash, including the soft drinks we’d drunk but we left feeling confused and hungry 🤣

Pros: Cosy atmosphere , Some vegan options

Cons: Staff , Service

Cosy wee bar

A very cosy bar for a drink, and nice to have something too eat too. However although the cheesy garlic bread was really yummy, the cheese board was very ordinary (I can do it better at home) and the nachos were a bit dry. It would be nice to have a vegan mince option for the nachos!
So definitely go for the ambience, the drink selection and the kitsch decorations, but don't expect too much from the food.

Love The Crafty Baa

Happy Cow recommendation and didn’t disappoint. Quirky pub - the smallest pub in the Lake District. Plenty of vegan options. We had Craftys Three Cheese Garlic Blend with vegan cheese - £9.00, which was clearly labelled as VG option available. Had to wait a while but well worth it. It is a filler so be warned, you may not need dinner. Presented on a slate with coleslaw, root crisps and a pear, all very tasty. They serve Whitley Neill gin, all of which are vegan (except Rhubarb & Ginger according to their website so please check yourself). Great atmosphere and music!

Decent enough

It's a good pub in itself with a fair selection of ales, guest ales and so on. Has mad decor including a scary doll room. I wouldn't call the vegan selection broad or amazing but there's a few options with vegan cheese. I don't normally go in for vegan cheese but I had garlic bread with it and it was spot on. The vegan options are basically all nibbles and pub snacks but the garlic bread and a bowl of olives with bread tided me over for a good while. Nice staff. Dog friendly. Worth a visit.

Re: covid measures, the staff had masks, they took my details, but the seating isn't so spaced out.

Pros: Ales, Dog friendly, Easy to reach

Cons: Not the widest selection
