Distressingly good food - Edit
Distressing, because you'll need to go on a severe diet for weeks after staying at this incredible hotel. The sheer inventiveness of the cooking was beyond words - I even found myself eating things I normally hate, like banana fritters and aubergines. In fact, the maccheroni alla norma was the best meal of an astonishingly varied week; the best wine was greco di tufo, which was a new one for me (and I normally drink red).

Pros: Five stars are insufficient for this amazing place

BEST FOOD YOU WILL EVER EAT - Edit
This was 5-star plantbased food. Every meal was wonderful and delicious. Vegetarian cuisine can be this great (if only everyone knew!). Olive-oil, figs and other fruits and herbs are coming from their own garden. The food was truly an experience that made me emotional. You will be welcomed by the lovely host Alberto, who contributed to the wondeful stay at the countryhouse. The property is surrounded by olive-trees and you’ll see great views over Italian landscapes. Also the pool is very idyllic and soothing. The rooms are authentic, yet a bit dated. On request they can make lunch (I would highly recommend). With Happycow we found some other places to have lunch, near old beautiful villages that were also nice to visit. If you are looking for a place to relax, enjoy life at the top of a hill and love to eat the best food in the world - go to Montali!

Just epic - Edit
stunning surroundings. be sure to mention you're vegan in your reservation notes. truly excellent vegetable focused meals - don't expect fake meat and the like. pro tip: avoid using google maps in the area! we ended up in quite a pickle as some of the things that google thinks are 'roads' in the area are so. not. roads.

A piece of heaven in Umbria - Edit
Montali Country House is magical. Alberto and his wife have created a haven of stylish tranquility. The food is created and presented with love and attention. Such a treat for vegetarians and omnivores alike. The staff are welcoming and hospitable. Every need is taken care of with grace and efficiency. The rooms are extremely comfortable. The options are to explore the surrounding unspoiled countryside by foot or car, or chill by the pool overlooking the hills and lakes of Umbria. Lunch is available on request if you don't want to leave the property. Dinner is 4 courses, lunch 3. Excellent value - breakfast and dinner are included in the price of the room. The wine list is exceptional and Alberto will help you choose the perfect wine for tonight's menu. The food changes daily. Prepare to be surprised and delighted at each meal. Montali attracts well travelled and discerning clients so you will be sure to find someone interesting to chat to over an aperitivo or digestivo.

Veggie heaven on earth! - Edit
We stayed here for 4 nights in May2017 and were over the moon to have discovered somewhere so relaxing, peaceful, picturesque but above all that serves the most incredible vegan (or veggie) food we've ever had. 4 courses on 4 nights, each one different and each one delicious. The location is just stunning, the hosts are so welcoming and friendly (without being over the top), and we cannot wait to visit again, and again, and again...

Best Vegetarian B&B in the world - Edit
Montali is a small B&B situated on a picturesque Umbrian hilltop. My wife and I are not B&B people. Truth be told, we hate B&Bs. But from the moment we arrived at Montali, Alberto and his staff made us feel like family.
Read moreIf she wanted to, Malu could open a world-class vegetarian restaurant in New York or San Francisco. The 10km drive up the unpaved road is well-worth the trip. Most of the guests who we met--even though they were not vegetarian--were repeat customers. The chefs we met (who came from all over the world to study with Malu) were not vegetarian chefs.
The food is just that good.
Go for the sunset. Stay for the dessert.

Pros: world-class gourmet food, romantic, English speaking staff
