Needs improvement - Edit
It wasn’t terrible and it was nice to experience a tasting menu. Some of the vegan dishes were lacking compared to their non-vg counterparts. For the same price. Wine and service was good though.

Poor service - Edit
Some of the food was great, the rest was nothing special, service was poor.
Read moreHaving eaten a la carte here in early August and been impressed, I booked almost immediately (over a month in advance) to take a friend visiting from the USA. When booking I stated our dietary restrictions and that we wanted the taster menus. When we arrived, not only had they clearly not read the message, but they informed us we would only have 75 minutes for our meal because they wanted the table for another booking. They said if we hadn’t finished by then, they would move us upstairs. They seemed put out that we didn’t want to do wine pairing with the food.
The first couple of courses were excellent, but the vegan option was not as listed on the taster menu. They reserve the right to swap out dishes based on available ingredients, and I applaud their commitment to using what’s available, but it would not have been hard to flag up substitutions when we ordered. I was served two successive courses of cauliflower, which could have been spaced out for variety.
We had only had 3 courses when we were asked to move (we had been there barely an hour - the next lot of people arrived early). The restaurant was filled by two large parties and we appeared to be an inconvenience for them.
Despite a month’s notice, they were unable to offer a sugar-free vegan dessert. Other desserts were garnished with fresh strawberries so I asked for a bowl of those or other fresh fruit, which I was refused. They proposed I pick a drink from the drinks menu instead but, as I don’t drink alcohol, I declined.
They knocked off £5 for my lack of dessert and the 10% service charge for moving us, but it was their attitude throughout that really spoiled the evening (one waitress was nice but the other two gave the impression they would rather not have to deal with us).. I was embarrassed as I had suggested the venue as a special treat for my overseas visitor. I shan’t be going back.
Pros: Some of the food was truly delicious, A la carte last month was nice
Cons: Poor service, Poor attitude, Repetitive main ingredients

A nice treat - Edit
Would be a great place to take people visiting Scotland. We had the 6 course vegan tasting menu with wine pairing. £49 plus £30, which seemed on the expensive side for the food, but was very tasty. The young waitress was very friendly and polite. My favourite course was the butternut squash gnocchi.
