Serves meat, vegan options available. Located in the Ilala Lodge in a very touristy meat-heavy area of Victoria Falls, this restaurant has a vegan chickpea burger featured on the lunch menu, in addition to many veg choices on the dinner menu (falafel, curry, and salads etc.). Vegan dishes are not marked, but ask your server as several can be made vegan. Previously called The Palm Restaurant. Open Mon-Sun 7:30am-10:00pm.

Not a lot of Vegan

Two dinner options, they were ok, breakfast is toast and fruit. They put butter and dairy in basically everything.
Would be nice to have at least some roasted vegetables.Hard to convey “Vegan” to front of house staff. Very friendly people but better training is needed.

Pros: Great people, Nice venue

Cons: No basic Vegan , No understanding of Vegan

Nice settings, subpar food

We’re staying at Ilala right now and had dinner here last night. The restaurant had a colonial decor with a nice ambiance. They had a pianist playing classic tunes on an old piano that desperately needed some TLC. When it came to the food, it was a disappointment.

There were a number of veggie options on the menu that were heavy on dairy and zero inherently vegan options. We shared the cauliflower steak starter with chickpeas and sun-dried tomatoes. The cauliflower was supposed to be grilled but tasted more like it was boiled and/or previously frozen. I had the dal and cauliflower curry for main course, which was mostly cauliflower and very light on the dal. Taste was just alright. There were also no crisp curry leaves to be found despite the menu description. Portions were on the small side. The whole meal was forgettable and not worth the price.

Ask for vegan options

I stayed at Ilala Lodge of which the Palm Restaurant is a part. So it was very convenient to have the option of getting vegan breakfast, lunch and dinner there in between our various activities during the day. Vegan dishes are not marked on the menu, so it's necessary to ask the waiters for vegan options. When I was there (August 2019) the following lunch menu items could be made vegan: Ilala Garden Salad and the Spicy corn & chickpea burger. From the dinner menu the following were or could be made vegan: Chickpea and lentil fritters, palm salad, falafel, chickpea and vegetable curry. This is certainly not an ideal situation for vegans but as vegan food is not that easily available in Zimbabwe, I was very glad I found this listing on HappyCow and was well fed at the Palm Restaurant.

Pros: nicely presented food, tasty

Cons: vegan options not marked, expensive (as everything in Victoria Falls)

A few vegan options

We stayed in the Ilala lodge so we asked if we can have something vegan for dinner. The waiters didn’t really understand the difference between vegetarian and vegan so we talked to the chef himself. He told us that he can Veganize the veggie dishes. Sadly it’s only 3. pasta was ok but very sweet. Curry was ok. The falafel was bit dry, there was no replacement für the dip.

Pros: Vegetarian options can be made vegan

Cons: Etwas teuer.

good spot in Vic falls

Found it pretty hard to find food while being here but this place was awesome! The curry on the dinner menu is vegan and delicious

most fabulous (and only) vegan burger in town

Ilala Hotel has gone to a lot of trouble, even bringing vegan cheese up from South Africa, to make Victoria Fall’s only vege/vegan burger. Places like Three Monkeys around the corner just don’t care (and still serve a fish based sauce with their only “V” starter).

It’s a beautiful place to have a well priced vegan meal with other options on the menu as well.

Pros: Victoria Falls’ only Vegan Burger, beautiful place, vegan cheese brought up regularly from South Afric

Cons: can always be more vegan options as most Americans
