Fully vegetarian pub

This is a fully vegetarian pub and the menu clearly labels what is vegan or not. There are many vegan options. The miso ramen is very good. It is full of flavour and is very warm and satisfying. The insides of the pub is also lively but also retains the pub feel.

Pros: Many vegan options clearly labelled

Good pub feed

Really enjoyed dining here! Great vibe -very lively. There's also a selection of boardgames, which you can play while you eat. Good variety on the menu, I would say a bit on the pricey side for what you get so would maybe recommend coming on one of the special days i.e. taco Tuesday. Even then I loved that 90% of the menu was vegan and a big variety of dishes. Would recommend the schnitzel!

Cheap tasty tacos

Came on Taco Tuesday, boy was j in for a treat. The price was reasonable, and they tasted great for pub tacos. Absolutely dripping with sauce and generous with the fillings.

I topped it off with a desert taco, consisting of vegan cream, strawberries and crushed Oreos. Tasty thanks to the slightly glazed strawberries and Oreos, but the vegan cream was a bit watery.

I don’t understand why this place isn’t fully vegan yet! There’s so few vego only options on their menu

Good food but pretty expensive

We have been here a few times now, and there are always some really good dishes on the menu. I really loved the texture of the pan fried gnocchi, the menu said chikn and mushroom ragout, but it seemed very different to what I thought a ragout was, also it was more like eggplant and mushroom. It was still tasty, and the parsnip cream was nice.
The beer battered cauliflower had a nice twist being salt and vinegar crusted, I loved the vinegar taste, but it was a little too salty for me. It came with a nice slaw which had apple in it.
The spicy corn fritters were a letdown, as they were soft/spongy balls, and didn't have much taste to them, I actually couldn't taste the corn.
It was taco night as well, and I really love coming to the Carringbush when they're doing tacos. The fish tempura was the perfect fishy texture, the beef fajita was a little sweet for me as it was in a hoisin based sauce, and the pumpkin, black bean, cumin rice, avo taco was surprisingly really good (surprising to me as I dislike pumpkin). It was like a burrito in a taco.
For dessert we ordered the tiramisu baked cheesecake which unfortunately was a real disappointment, the texture was not at all reminiscent of cheesecake. Instead it was very dense, and quite dry. It came with a very watery cream sauce, and a chocolate crumb which I really enjoyed, I think it was blitzed oreos.
I find the food to be very expensive here, and on the whole, I can't really justify coming here more often.
Also, I always get excited seeing the lasagne on the menu, it sounds delicious, but then I realise it's not vegan. It would be SO easy to make it vegan!

Pros: pan fried gnocchi, great ambiance

Cons: expensive

Has the Carringbush gone completely vegan now? The online menu still has non-vegan stuff on it.

One of the best places in Melbourne

The food here never disappoints. I visit at least weekly, with taco nights a highlight. Dog friendly (and such lovely staff and customers that my dog gets excited to visit). Standard menu as well as sandwich, pie and taco specials

Pros: Affordable, especially on taco night, Dog friendly, Consistently tasty menu items

Fantastic menu

Carringbush has changed their menu since I last visited and I am impressed. I ordered the mushroom gnocchi and wow I’m impressed. It was pan fried and the mushroom was flavoursome with dollops of parsnip cream. My non vegan friends enjoyed their meals too. I think there’s something for everyone here. Good work carringbush.

Pros: Mostly vegan, Great service , HOT SAUCE WALL

Cons: A little pricey but ok

Not hard to be better

Now been a few times with Vegan girlfriends who live close by. The food is passable and there are some OK selections. Reminds me of my back street locals at home in London. About the beer and football with a naff retro pub vibe thrown in. Really good beer selection I was told, but wine on tap was missable and cocktails inconsistent. The Melbourne Vegan/Veg scene has a lot better to offer than here.

Pros: Beer, Tacos

Cons: Beer and football, pub grub

I certainly don’t think the food here is amazing, but I do think it’s more of a pub with a veg menu than a veg restaurant with a focus on food. As for the vibe, I don’t really perceive it to have a contrived retro style and I think it’s has a fairly standard modern decor with ordinary furniture and no attempts at vintage or classic old pub chic.

So many choices

Nov 2020- One of the few places open on a Monday for lunch, which happened to be my birthday - we visited most recently in Nov 2020. It was an enjoyable experience in the courtyard on a warmish day. We noticed many changes in the menu. The sausage roll with salad was delicious, and huge. I think there may be more vegan options than the last time we visited.

We enjoyed lunch at the Carringbush, with the biggest struggle choosing just one option for lunch while being aware to request vegan (as most items are vegetarian).
Lovely vibe with some outdoor seating.
I had the tofu steak, in a Japanese style broth and rice. It was really tasty. The burgers were reportedly delicious, and the gnocchi was 'amazing'.
Beers on tap are vegan unless specified. Service is friendly. Be prepared though, prices are steep!

Always Good!

Been a couple of times and it’s always really good.

They do mark up the YAY! pies but this is understandable. The food is always really good with a few specials constantly changing.

I love the shelves with all the different sauces and the homemade bourbon bbq sauce was my favourite!

It’s a lovely space with an outdoor area and heaps of board games, good happy hour and lunch deal and plenty of good beers on tap. Service is always super friendly. Not a bad word to say about this venue!

Pros: Yummy food, Sauce shelves, Good service

Sunny

Dec 2019
We visited to try out the new menu and unlike most venues, they've actually given it a proper refresh rather than just swapping out a couple of dishes. I enjoyed the potato croquettes for the most part, but would have preferred a crispier exterior and more of them. The carrots were nice enough, but the gnocchi was a clash of flavours and a little strange. Good chips.

July 2019
Had the mushroom pie with mushy peas and mash, and while it's nice enough it certainly isn't a $21 meal. The buffalo cauliflower was quite enjoyable served with a very good slaw and chips on the side. I really wish the entire menu was vegan as I would be hard pushed to choose something on a third visit.

April 2019
The vegetable charcuterie plate featured some very good bread! More bread would have been good to make better use of the various dips and veggies. We also had the mixed rice salad which had an enjoyable tangy dressing. $18 for the salad may have been a bit steep for the size though.

The venue itself has a really good feel and the courtyard was a very pleasant spot to sit on a sunny day.

Free Beer

3rd visit Dec 2019: gnocchi, carrots, chips, and potato croquettes. The chips were pretty good, everything else (including the beers) was a swing and a miss this time. The gnocchi itself was well done, but lacking in quantity & the beetroot sauce and pesto did not work well. Rating lowered.

Tasty food, but I found the menu to be a touch restrictive due to being vegetarian; of the 2 burgers, only 1 is vegan and that is a falafel burger o.O
The non-charcuterie plate would benefit from the inclusion of some marinated tofu, or tempeh, as well as some vegan cheese (aside from the included labneh) and flatbread, but was still very enjoyable.
The salad was very nicely flavoured, but would have benefitted from more cauliflower, and a price reduction.
The free pot of beer with mains purchased between 11am - 2pm Mon-Fri would easily make weekday dining good value.
Definitely worth a repeat visit, especially since Richmond eateries generally price well above what their quality and serving sizes can justify.

Delicious sweet potato “steak”

I came here for dinner on the launch of their winter menu. I think their starters menu needs to include a few more vegan options as there were only two that I could see. We ordered dumplings, eggplant salad and a side of carrots to share. The side was huge. I really enjoyed the salad and carrots. It felt like the dumplings flavour wasn’t strong. I had the sweet potato steak for my main and this was really tasty. Lots of flavours and well cooked.
It would be great to have both dessert options and burger options as vegan. But I do get into that “why can’t it just be veganised” mentality when there is something I want to eat but don’t because it’s not vegan.
I liked the pub too.

Excellent vegan pub fare🌱👌🏽

The Carringbush Hotel is such a great little vegetarian/vegan pub! In a gorgeous part of Abbotsford just a few minutes walk from Collingwood. The menu for food and booze is loaded with vegan options and the staff are super friendly and helpful.
I had the beer battered cauliflower which was delicious, the tartare sauce 👌🏽

Pros: So many vegan options for food and booze
