No idea why it’s loved by so many - Edit
I always feel bad giving vegan food places bad reviews because we need more of them! But this place has only a 3 star food hygiene rating (which is ridiculous in today’s standards it’s not difficult to have proper 5* food hygiene) and it’s very apparent inside to the point where I checked the rating whilst waiting for my food. The building itself is cold, the tables were sticky and chairs uncomfortable, we had to wait a while as well for food which just didn’t taste that great to be honest. The employees were nice and friendly but it’s just not the cosy warm vibes with great food I was expecting.

Decent food, big portions - Edit
Visited Saturday lunchtime, was quiet just us and other couple there. Really friendly staff. Food was really tasty, seitan bit on the hard side but that was fine with me. Decent size portions for decent price, £53 for food and drinks for three. Liked the quirky decor, a bit shabby in places but that adds to its charm. There's book's and board games available. We'll definitely go again

Food was just a bit .. eh. Ordered x2 types of wings (bbq and hot) which were fine but not a lot of flavour. Chip butty was absolutely drenched in butter which was just a bit too sickly. Crispy beef and salt and pepper chips were good.
Read moreFood was a long wait but they warned us in advance so this wasn’t an issue; however it was SO cold inside the building that the wait felt even longer. Everyone in the pub kept their coat on and it just didn’t make for a great experience sadly.

Chill vibes and tasty bites - Edit
We popped in on a Thursday afternoon for a late lunch. It was pretty quiet and relaxed in the pub. We opted for some sandwiches which were very tasty. Recommended!

I’ve seen a lot of bad reviews. I thought the Caledonia was great! We went off peak and our food was hot and delicious. We did have to wait a bit though.

Really really bad food - Edit
The food was served cold. The seitan bricks were extremely chewy and were in every dish we had ordered.
Read moreSourdough bread on the menu is just a plain piece of cheap white bread.
You simply cannot serve food like this to your customers.
Reading the other reviews makes me wonder if we were just very unlucky. But this was the worst food I've had me served in years.
We mentioned the cold fries, that was taken off the bill. Guy was friendly.
Also, there was a fun band playing while we were there.
Will give one extra star for these things.
The food alone deserved no stars at all.
Pros: Staff, Live music venue
Cons: Food was really really bad, Shabby interior

Good portions, tasty burgers - Edit
The seitan chicken is a little chewy and my husband isn't as much of a fan, but I think it makes for some really good wings. I also like the 'beef' burgers, and the portions sizes! The gender neutral toilets are also a big plus. Some good music sometimes, too!

Decent vegan junk/pub food - Edit
Plant-based pub - all respect for that. I had the cheese & bacon burger. It’s a little shabby but very popular & they have an interesting selection of draft larger and ales.

Great food, though half of menu wasn't available - Edit
Went early afternoon on a Saturday, really looking forward to vegan cheesecake. Sadly, the only dessert on offer was ice cream, so we stuck to savoury food. Around half the menu was off. I settled for BBQ seitan wings, plus onion rings. my partner had burger and chips. Can't fault the food - full of flavour. Nice beer and friendly service. Like the gender-neutral toilets, too.
Read moreI felt that 5 x sticky chunks of seitan wasn't a balanced meal though - I would have prefered 4 plus a side salad and mayo. I fed this back to them and they were friendly about it. I'd go back. Would have given 5 stars if the menu options hadn't been so limited on our visit.

Cold inside and waited 45 minutes after order to discover the food we ordered hadn’t been passed on to the kitchen so we left with no dinner.

This was my first time in Liverpool and I will absolutely come back just for this. If you are a local then you need to go give it your custom!
Hell yeah.

Yummy vegan junk food - Edit
This pub was really cool. Up near the uni with music I like. It wasn’t very busy when we arrived but we ordered lunch. They had a 2 for 1 special as they have launched a new menu. I ordered a CVK burger and it arrived with chips and coleslaw. My partner had the Philly cheezesteak. Condiments were brought out and I had seriously forgotten that I used to add vinegar to fries so that was awesome! My partner’s cheezesteak was nice too. I loved the mushrooms on it. I had raspberry sparkling water which I liked too.
Read moreFor dessert, we ordered the cookie dough. We could have ordered 2 for 1 desserts but we were trying to be a bit sensible. We got the baked cookie dough. It was a huge piece of cookie dough. We share this and it came with ice cream and chocolate sauce.
This isn’t an upmarket pub, more a dive bar which meant I liked it more. I liked that they had non gendered toilets and as we left, parklife was playing. Perfect!

Huge portions and live music! - Edit
Was impressed by the big portions and the food tasted quite good too, although there could have been more sauce on the vegan chicken. It's great that there's a busy live music schedule at an all-vegan pub! Only other things I'd mention is that the service could've been a little more friendly and the chairs aren't very comfortable either.

Good food and some different beers - Edit
Lovely to have a vegan pub and the Caledonia is well located if you're attending the local ghost walk afterwards. The menu is seitan based fast food style. We had the chckn "wings", a side order of chips, the katsu burger and salt and pepper chips. It was well presented and served quickly. The seitan could do with a little more seasoning- the flavours were mainly in the sauces and toppings. The texture was excellent though.
Read moreThe reason for 4 rather than 5 stars is due to the feeling of something missing, which we've come across in vegan pubs before. The toilets could do with being cleaner and the decor was a odd - it's a burgundy colour over everything except the walls that have green and yellow wallpaper. The furniture is uncomfortable and it doesn't make you want to stay there any longer than you have to. We're still yet to find a vegan pub we want to frequent.

Right on the edge of the University campus, brilliant little pub come vegan cafe. Had the wings which were nice, friend had burger and chips which seemed okay. The beers looked good, so will be going back. Liked the interior - old pub feel.

We've visited the Caledonia twice. From the outside it just looks like an ordinary run of the mill pub but once inside you find a fab all vegan menu offering great choices at reasonable prices. Sorry to see that Covid has caused it to shut at this time. I hope to visit again in more normal times.
Read moreEdit: Oct 21. The Caledonia has just reopened after a big facelift. It feels cleaner, warmer and just nicer (although I also loved it before!). The plastic trays have gone. The menu is the same, however, it's basically burgers and wings with different varieties of fries to choose from. I love it and make a beeline everytime I'm in Liverpool.

Not good - Edit
I went there one evening to eat, drink and enjoy the live music. The whole menu is vegan. The choices are burgers, wings and chips. I ordered a burger. Unfortunately, I can't write anything good about it. Actually, there's not much you can do wrong with a burger, but this one was really not enjoyable for me. I had to leave the food, something that never happens to me. My friend didn't enjoy the meal either. I'm sorry I can't report anything better about it.

Wouldn’t return - Edit
The setting isn’t really that welcoming and feels like a dirty pub. The school trays that the dinner was served on also weren’t clean (this was pre-Covid) and the food was so underwhelming especially considering all the hype that I’d heard about it.

Nice for a beer and a burger with friends. Quality is what you would expect from a pub kitchen. You could make it at home cheaper but where's the fun in that?
