Too Salty - Edit
I love the idea and the food taste like the foods I ate before becoming a Vegan. Unfortunately the "meats" are way to salty.

Holy Shiz 😳👌 - Edit
For starters, this place makes their own cashew based cheeses, and I brought some shredded mozzarella and it was so good to the point where I was eating it out of the bag raw (I never do that with vegan cheese 😩), also their fried mozzarella cheese sticks are the bomb diggity, I regret not buying more cheeses and frozen sticks to take home 😔, fun mini market where you can get some popular vegan snacks and locally made frozen goods, also the owner was kind 🥰
Read moreTo add: also ordered the sweet mustard chicken sandwich as a salad, chicken pieces were crunchier than I'd would've liked but the salad was still good otherwise (any sandwich can be converted to a salad)

Best vegan food I have had for sure. Definitely a bit less on the healthy side but the Mozzarella sticks are amazing as well as their homemade marinara sauce. Vegan pastrami was a bit bland and dry but the pesto and other veggies made up for it im the sandwich I had. Food was decently priced for the pricy Berkeley area and was very tasty.

The mozzarella sticks are a MUST! Be prepared to share because the portion sizes are huge. A little pricey but definitely worth it!

Large Selection! - Edit
Ordered: Smoked Pastrami, White Fish Melt and Pulled pork Sandwich
Read moreWhen My sister was reading me the menu I was having difficulty picking what to order because the selection is large and they all sound really good. We got the food ordered for pick up and it was ready on time, it had the car smelling so good. We split the three sandwiches and the smoked Pastrami was my favorite, had a nice Smokey peppery flavor and I liked the texture though my sister thought it was dry. The white fish melt was nice but I was not expecting it to be made from jackfruit, it was lemony and fresh tasting. The pulled pork sandwich was like a tasty pulled pork tasting sloppy joe with cole slaw on it. The sandwiches are filling and you probably only need one sandwich to fill you up, will order again next time I’m in town.

Okay food, consistently underwhelming service. - Edit
The food is alright, almost everything has bacon and I'm not the biggest fan so that might be a bug reason why I'm not so impressed. Then again, if you have to lean so heavily on bacon to make your sandwiches good, maybe they aren't that great and you should try to be more creative.
Read moreService is mediocre at the absolute best. Just went to pick up today after placing an order in advance. Rather than have any of the staff handle takeaway orders (like the 3 that were at the front), they still tell people to get to the back of the line for people who are placing orders. Makes absolutely no sense.
The also stopped having sides, which I had actually liked as much if not more than the sandwiches.
Oh and the line/wait is always disgustingly long. I remember once (pre-covid) I waited in like for 20 minutes to order then the food took another 50 minutes. We're talking about pretty basic sandwiches. Not worth the effort or the wait, but I guess if you've got the time and are obsessed with bacon give it a shot.
Pros: All vegan
Cons: Meh customer service, Unimaginative menu, Long wait

Amazing! - Edit
I got the BLAT- bacon, lettuce, avocado, tomato, fried chicken, and Mayo on sourdough and it was incredible! The bacon had such a good flavor and texture. The fries and chocolate chip cookie were great too. The mustard sauce was also delicious, as was the sauce that came with the “fish”. Such a cool place!

Amazing vegan deli - Edit
Fortunately, I found myself in the area on a Saturday during their brunch hours (Sa-Su 10a-1:30p). I asked the staff which of the three brunch sandwiches was his favorite, and without hesitation, he named #ThisIsMyAddiction, which is a garlic bread ciabatta roll sandwich with tofu scramble, mozzarella, bacon, and smashed avocado. Funnily enough, that wasn't what I was expecting since the steak & egg hoagie and fried chicken bagelwich both sounded more exciting. I ordered it anyway and sipped a mimosa while waiting for my order in the backyard patio, which has about 12 tables that seat 2-4 people each. But yes, the sandwich was everything I wanted in that moment. I savored every delectable bite! Then of course, I went back in and bought way too many of their deli items to enjoy later, including their two staff favorite desserts: coffee cake and tiramisu. Annie's T Cakes pineapple cakes were fantastic, as were the house made smoked whitefish and chicken salads. /sigh I really need to come back more often. If only I could take a direct BART from SF!

I was so impressed with the quality of the food here. I mean, there’s no way I’d mistake the wheat roast slices on the hot roast beef sandwich as animal-derived, but I wouldn’t want to. The flavors are just perfect, and I can’t wait to come back and try their other sandwiches, maybe even their weekend brunch items. I also wanted to buy everything from the market side of the deli: they carry housemade cheeses, desserts, and frittatas, as well as products made by other vendors (e.g., vegan fish sauce, bacon, pozole, enchiladas, tamales, cashew milk ice cream). I’m also tempted to get one of their T-shirts!
Be sure to bus your own table.

Delish! - Edit
Got the chicken Parm, mozzarella sticks and Reuben. The sticks were sooo good even the marinara they came with was excellent and the Reuben was absolutely incredible. The Parm was a bit dry but good taste. Definitely put us in a MAJOR food coma for the rest of the day and it was also enough for for me and my boyfriend to eat two meals each. Would recommend If you have nothing else going on in the day and can just take a nice nap post meal.

Everything was good, only think I didn’t care about was the vegan bacon. When I went vegan I wasn’t looking for a alternative and I still don’t. The tofu needed a little bit more seasoning but overall I’ll happily return to eat more.

Butcher’s Son has an incredible selection of sandwiches and other deli foods that use their own house-made meats and cheeses. Classic sandwiches are all represented, along with excellent starters and sides (like fried mozzarella, potato salad, Caesar salad, etc.)

amazing vegan sandwiches! - Edit
This place is amazing! I get something different every time I go, and so far everything has been delicious. The portion sizes are huge. Even my non-veg parents love it. I can’t help but notice they stopped offering their potato salad and macaroni salad as a complimentary side, but I won’t take off a star because I know a lot of restaurants have been spread thin budget-wise during COVID.
