No fries, no fun. - Edit

This place used to be awesome as a non-vegan, so when I saw that they had plant-based options, I was thrilled. Unfortunately, the excitement soon faded. To "veganize" the burgers you're going to pay a ton more. For example: it's an extra $2 for a bun. Also, my husband and I tried to order the fries but the lady behind the counter clearly opposed that we get them because all the fries are cooked in the same oil as the raw chicken. The result? Plain-Jane, $10 veggie burger with ketchup (because nearly all the sauces had dairy).

Good options but frustrating upcharges on burgers - Edit

The Burger Stand has several housemade vegetarian burgers that can be made vegan, but there's a $2 upcharge for a vegan bun, and most burgers come with cheese or dairy-based sauces. They will leave these off, but they'll charge you extra to replace them with other toppings (like $2 for a few slices of avocado). Net result: your burger with vegan substitutions costs almost 50% more than the vegetarian version. Frustrating. Also, almost all of the options at the condiment bar are dairy-based.

One plus at the Lawrence location is that they have tofu fries. I like these smoked with the chipotle-cocoa ketchup. Good draft beer selection, too.

Overall, they could do a lot better in terms of vegan options, but it's worth a visit when you're in the mood for a burger and a beer in a pub atmosphere. Also a good place to go to with non-veg friends and family.

Pros: tofu fries, housemade vegan burger patties, good beer and pub atmosphere

Cons: no burger on menu is vegan by default, upcharges for vegan buns and substitute toppings, limited vegan condiments

Great place to get a burger - Edit

This place has several vegan burger options (just be sure to ask to make it vegan--they switch out the bun and omit cheese/sauces as needed) and a couple choices for sides.

It's located downtown and can get kind of busy and crowded, but we've always been able to find a seat, even with a massive stroller. There's free 2-hour garage parking nearby.

Pros: Several vegan options!, Good for groups with picky non-vegans

Cons: No vegan milkshakes

Good vegan burger options! - Edit

Beware, though, if you're both vegan and gluten-free. They have gluten-free buns that aren't vegan and vegan buns that aren't gluten free. But they do have an option to turn any burger into a salad, so if you're both vegan and GF, that's an option for you. Their fries and their sweet potato fries are both vegan, and they have delicious spicy dill pickles by the condiments! They also (as of August 2016) have a BBQ dipping sauce and a ketchup at the condiment bar that are both vegan.

Pros: Vegan burger options , Fries are vegan , Nice, friendly service

Cons: $2 upcharge for avocado even if ordering no cheese
