If I could give this a FIVE star I would. Cocktails and food are amazing.

One of a kind restaurant in Phoenix, with one of the few progressive chefs in the Nation. It’s a contemporary take on Jamaican food with a foundation based on sustainability. Must try...

Pros: Staff is knowledgeable , Sustainable Seafood & partnered w/ Monterey Bay , James Beard Nominated 2x

Decent vegan options

I was in Phoenix recently for a work conference and went here for dinner one night with coworkers. I got the plantain appetizer and was very happy that they were not greasy like most restaurant plantain. I got the farmer's veggie melange entree and it was very flavorful. The sorrel non-alcoholic drink was delicious and very refreshing.

Pros: Good vegan options, Non-alcoholic drinks, Good service

First Time

The ambiance and decor are on point. When you walk into the dining area the scent of herbs and spices is hypnotizing. Your mouth will start to water. My dish was delicious and the small plates really hit the mark. The serving sizes are extremely small and the prices are high.

Pros: The staff are very friendly and welcoming. Food , good but very small servings.

Cons: The prices are pretty high. Being from New York , There are so many Carribean options and you , get way more food for your buck. One vegan meal.

Decent food, great drinks, fantastic atmosphere

If you're looking for a good spot in downtown Phoenix with vegan options and you like rum cocktails, this a good choice. This place has a great ambiance with outdoor seating and a stellar cocktail menu. There are several vegan options (roasted plantains, mango salsa, tofu curry with cabbage + red pepper being a few examples). The rest is mainly seafood/not plant-based. Our server was attentive and nice and the other servers seemed to be the same way. My fiancé (who is not vegan) enjoyed the drinks and enjoyed the food, although we agreed the food may not be worth the $$$ (because it is quite expensive!)--$20+ kind of expensive... Overall, it's worth a try!

Pros: Great drinks, Laid back, Ambiance

Cons: Expensive

Expensive and mediocre

The food was just so-so. I didn't notice anything about it that couldn't be done at home. My dining partner agreed. Gourmet prices should come with a gourmet experience. Meh. It's ok. Get ready for a large bill. Their rum drinks are incredible, though. I recommend you just sit at the bar, get a drink (tell the incredible bartenders they have complete creative freedom and just surprise you) and get an app or two. :)

Pros: Interesting spices

Cons: Expense is disproportionate to dining experience.

Jamaican Me Hungry

Not sure why The Breadfruit and Rum Bar is listed on a vegetarian website, but if you're dining with meat lovers then this spot is definitely a trendy and flavorful choice.

I promise you will burn through cash pretty fast and not get as much as you think you should, but where the restaurant lacks in quantity it excels in quality.

The food is fresh, very tasty, and most of all memorable.

Veggie dishes include:
plantain appetizer
salad
tofu entree

Pros: Memorable food, Back patio with large seats for lounging

Cons: Tight parking, Need GPS, hard to give directions, Little quantity

Unique and delicious

I was surprised to read such a bad review here. I have been to Breadfruit many times and have never felt like they were pushy or greedy. This is a very small place and the staff is very friendly. All of their juices are $4 or less, fresh, and delicious. We have tried most everything on the menu (I went there as an omnivore too) and loved it. Although the parking right in front is metered (during the day), if you are willing to walk a block or two there is free parking elsewhere.

Pros: friendly staff, excellent food, unique

Cons: small

Wouldn't go back

You know those people you instantly don't like? They don't even have to say anything, and you already know. That's kind of how I felt walking into this place. It was way overpriced for what you get and how muh it costs them to make it. Also, come with a firm grip on your wallet, as the server tried to upsell my husband and I at every bend! I rejected all of his $6 carrot juices and $8 desserts, but he ended up tricking me into getting bread with my $7 room temperature soup (two measley sweet pencil-esque breadsticks), so there was another secret $3.50. I imagined him laughing to himself over that Victory. My husband got the coconut tofu, and it was nothing you couldn't make at home. It's not that I'm a cheapskate, but I don't like feeling like i'm at a used car lot when I'm paying $40 for a mediocre lunch in the first place. Also, there's only metered parking, so bring some coins.

Pros: The paintings were nice.

Cons: Server is a douche, Food was ok, Yougo not get what you (over)pay for

Original and tasty

Not many vegetarian friendly Jamaican restaurants - about 1/2 vegetarian menu. Really original and tasty.

Pros: original taste, good presentation, fun

Cons: none
