Only vegan restaurant in Zadar - Edit
We went for a family dinner. The outdoor setting is lovely. The service was excellent. The variety of options on the menu is great - we had a couple of salads to start followed by gnocchi, pasta and ´fish’ mains. The food was good but doesn’t quite live up to the hype in the detailed descriptions provided in the menu. It is an expensive option but the service and ambiance make it worth a visit if you want a treat.

Had a great evening here - the food is great, the view of the ocean is really beautiful.
Read moreLove the combination of croatian food and vegan cuisine, background Information about all the dishes is found in the menu.
Also love that, although it is a finer dining experience, they have more affordable dishes aswell - if you want that take the burgers. We tried Mata-Mata and it was really good with a good portion size.
The fish aswell as the gnocchi were really good aswell!

Quality food - Edit
I loved having a vegan restaurant in Zadar. It's one of the reasons we came to Croatia, hoping the area would be vegan friendly, which it has been. We sat outside with fairy lights. It could be quite classy and romantic if you wanted that. The waiter was helpful and polite. The food was good. We had the gnocchi (a favourite), the fish type meal which was aubergine (really nice), the pasta bake (delicious but you have to wait a little longer for this) and a Croatian mushroom stew type meal on polenta. I wasn't that keen on the polenta, mostly as it was a heavy meal and I was hot. Although the most expensive meal we've had do far in Zadar, everybody loved their food and we plan to visit again.

Exceptional and unforgettable - Edit
Wow! Just wow. I don’t have the words to describe how fantastic this place is. I’ve been vegan for over a decade and have traveled extensively and eaten a lot of vegan food around the world, and this is one of the top 5 vegan restaurants I have ever been to. I loved the family story that comes with the menu and the explanations for some of the dishes. It made me feel connected to the food in a unique and emotional way. The Botanist beats some Michelin star experiences I have been to. Worth every cent! Don’t miss it on a visit to Zadar, even if you’re with friends who scoff at plant-based food.
Read moreIn detail: We tried the fennel salad, stone soup, “fish dish”, chickpea stew with sopernik, tiramisu, and cheesecake. the fennel salad was fresh and very delicately flavored. A cooling and palate-opening start to the meal.
The stone soup is hard to describe but not to be missed. It’s one of the most flavorful vegan broths I have tasted—rich in umami without being too salty and bursting with delicious but hard to pin down flavors. It was beautifully served from a stone teapot and over a bed of sea weeds and thick home made noodles.
The “fish” was another exceptional mix of flavors and textures. The tofu and vegetable based vegan dish was unique and tasty, and went beautifully with the melt-in-your mouth potato puree it was served on. The pure was unbelievable—so creamy and “buttery” and with flavor notes made to compliment the Swiss chard and “fish” to perfection.
The chickpea stew with sopernik was both a cozy homemade stew and a high end culinary experience. Beautifully served and full of delicate and perfectly balanced flavor notes, but comforting like wrapping yourself in a warm blanket on a cold day. The sopernik that came with it was prepared to perfection.
The desserts were, sadly, the only part of the meal that didn’t impress. The tiramisu was not a good tiramisu but was a very nice coffee-flavored dessert. Though nothing unforgettable. The cheesecake I would skip — it was your box standard coconut-based “cheesecake” that tastes of coconut cream and little else.
Overall, we had a fantastic experience at The Botanist and cannot recommend it enough. I cannot wait to return and try more of the dishes on the menu. I really admire how much love and meaning seems to be behind each dish. An extraordinary and unforgettable experience.
Pros: Exceptional food
Cons: Hot inside in the summer

Extremely delicious - Edit
We had to order and to eat more than needed, because it was so delicious. We had a the Pigbutt Worm (focaccia with fennel, capers and carrots) as a shared starter, the Olm (the fish inspired meal) and the Flamingo Tongue Snail (Croatian "goulash" with gnocchi) as main dishes and we changed our plates after eating the half. Afterwards we had the Tiramisu and were fully satisfied. Great location, very nice service and extremely delicious food. Highly recommended restaurant!

If you have food allergies, don't come here! - Edit
My first time in Zadar, I came for dinner every day. This time, I took my 17-months old son and my mum. Everything was nice, until I asked if the dessert contained cashews, as my little son is severely allergic to them. The staff said they'd confirm with the kitchen, returned stating there were no cashews in the dessert I'd ordered and that was that. I gave it to my little boy, who soon after started scratching his eyes. I knew what was happening and asked another member of staff to call a taxi as my son was having an allergic reaction.
Read moreIn the taxi, he vomited and luckily, I managed to give him his medication and he didn't get respiratory issues. I could have lost him!
I sent them a message on Instagram and didn't even receive a reply. It's been about a week.
Apart from this experience, the food was tasty and the service was friendly, up until the point where I apparently gave a tip that was too low. I hadn't checked beforehand and asked the waiter what was appropriate, to which he said he couldn't comment. He brashly said 'thanks' and blanked me from then on.
Needless to say, we didn't return, which is a shame. I used to love this place and it's the only fully vegan place in Zadar that I know of.
