A shining light in the darkness - Edit
We loved everything about our time in Zadar but one of the undoubted highlights was dinner at the Botanist. In a part of the world where vegan restaurants seem to be in short supply, it is truly a shining light in the darkness. The menu is full of innovative dishes, the food is delicious and the service friendly. Moreover, the location on the waterfront is just fabulous! Not the cheapest but good value nonetheless given the quality on offer.

The dishes taste amazing! We ordered a salad and two main courses, a polenta with oyster mushrooms and red sauce and the other was gnocchi that was the biggest star and surprisingly good.

It was so nice to go to a fully vegan restaurant. It isn’t actually stated anywhere, but it’s on their website (and happycow ofc). I had the gnocchi, which was so full of flavour and felt healthy but not boring. Staff were lovely and offered blankets, as it was chilly outside.

Menu is a little confusing as options have things such as steak, feta and meatballs listed. However everything is 100% plant based. Dishes have odd names but we had the brussell sprout, meatball Gnocchi and the tomato, polenta and cheesecake. Fine dining, lovely staff, beautiful view.

Read moreThe outside setting was great, I came late in the evening on a rainy Tuesday so there was almost no one and it was really peaceful.
Everything looked good, I wanted the Marble juice vegan meat but they were out of it. I tried the gnocchi plate : so good!! With lots of different flavours. They offered a homemade foccacia : super good as well. As a dessert I tried the tiramisu and I really liked it apart from the fact that the waiter put the coffee on top and he put everything so there was a bit much coffee for me.
Speaking of the waiter, he was really nice.

We absolutely loved this place — not just for the food, but for the beautiful concept and story behind it! It’s amazing to see how thoughtfully everything has been created, and how each dish is named so creatively. The fact that it’s fully vegan makes it even more special! We tried the gnocchi, lasagna, and the cauliflower starter — all of them were delicious, rich in flavour, and very filling. You can truly feel the passion and care that goes into the food here. We loved the entire experience and would definitely come back!

We had quite high expectations for this one, were welcomed very well, but the main course was underwhelming. It was kinda cold, the side dishes were nicely prepared, but not really that special, the asparagus wasn't really seasoned. So overall it was a mid experience which couldn't nearly fulfill the expectations we had based on the reviews and the price.

Local and international recipes with so much taste - every option I had was top tier, but I believe the filet mignon deserves special recognition for its outstanding texture. I’ll also shoutout the divine pistaccio cheesecake, I would eat it everyday if I could.

The food, the atmosphere, the staff, everything was jako dobro (very good!). You can taste the love they pour into their locally sourced food. I love that they put some more info about the dishes on the menu, which makes it even more special. We had the lasagna and gnocchi and both were amazing in terms of flavor and portion wise (which I am always skeptical about when it is more fine dining). Pistacchio cheesecake was to die for.

Vegan Fine Dining on the Waterfront - Edit
This is the only vegan restaurant in Zadar and you should not miss it. Inventive, delicious food, warm service, and an atmosphere that can’t be beat. We stayed for 2 1/2 hours! Make sure to time your reservation to the sunset over the Adriatic and yes you will need reservations. at least during high tourist season.

Wow. What a find. Of all the things to find in Zadar a fully plant based restaurant. I liked it so much I went back a second night. Absolutely incredible food and efficient service service. Very happy to see it busy, I do recommend booking.

Echt heel goed! Het terras is rustig gelegen met uitzicht op zee. Het is rustig maar sfeervol aangekleed. Het personeel is super vriendelijk, competent en goed op de hoogte. De gerechten zijn heerlijk en er is van alles te kiezen: van een lasagna van 50 lagen tot een Dalmatische stoof tot een filet mignon - allemaal veganistisch én heel lekker! Wij zijn tijdens onze vakantie teruggegaan. Absoluut geen spijt! 😋

I had a great stew with figs the first time an adapted Croatian dish and a lovely melt in the mouth carrot lasagne the second time. I’m not a fan of fake meat but my partner had the steak and the burger each time and they were also delicious.

Service was excellent. Our waiter, Luka, was friendly and professional, offering helpful suggestions and checking in at just the right moments. He made the experience smooth and welcoming.

Ich war insgesamt 2 mal da und das aus gutem Grund. Das erste Mal habe ich das Wellington Steak genommen und ich habe noch nie ein sooo leckeres Gericht gegessen! Das war ein Meisterwerk. Meine Begleitung hat das Steak genommen, was ebenfalls richtig lecker gewesen sein soll. Beim zweiten Mal habe ich die Lasagne genommen. Die hat auch sehr gut geschmeckt. Das Tiramisu und der Cheesecake waren ebenfalls ein Gedicht.
Read moreEs ist zwar etwas teurer, als andere Restaurants, aber ich kann jedem nur empfehlen, wenn man hier ist das Wellington als Hauptgericht und den Cheesecake als Nachspeise zu nehmen. Das was ich da geschmeckt habe, dass habe ich in noch keinem Restaurant so lecker essen können. Mein größtes Kompliment an die Küche. Ebenfalls war die Bedienung sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend. Alles in einem, kann ich dieses Restaurant mit bestem Gewissen weiterempfehlen. Das war traumhaft!
