White supremacy prevails here - Edit

The Block off Biltmore is not a safe space for poc's or any marginalized group. They are frauds and their claimed mission statement is a scheming hypocrisy. I already had reservations about going to this place because of their shady business dealings. But on Monday I planned my first visit for the Uhuru Movement fundraiser. There were two extremely obnoxious white people overtly acting in aggression against the Uhuru representative's message. The business owner, the bartenders and staff all allowed it by staying silent. A sort of fight ensued and rather than listening and hearing the poc's that had been acting in self defense, they were treated like criminals and told to leave with physical force. There's definitely solidarity here, but it's not with poc's or other marginalized groups.

The only reason this place has 2 stars is because one star is automatic. They don't serve food and have milk products - that's not vegan. What a farce.

Cons: They're not vegan, They don't support communities of color, They employ undocumented people and then don't pay

they don't offer food - Edit

They have snacks from some outside sources but do not have a food menu. Don't go there for food. Probably a good place for a drink if you fancy their events.

I love this place - Edit

If I lived in Asheville, I'd probably go every night.
There's no kitchen, but there are plenty of events scheduled with food offerings, which gives it a variety. Beer selection is amazing, the owner is amazing, and she throws fundraisers for the best causes.
Occasionally they'll have this local kombucha beer and it's the best.
I haven't had any of the liquor drinks, so I can't really comment on those.

Pros: Beer selection, Staff and Owner, Variety of food that comes with the events

BettyBeats 27 Dec 2017 - You mean TBOB enjoys taking money from organizations that host their events here which ultimately means she takes money from communities of color while having stolen this business from a neighborhood that had been predominantly of color before Cam and TBOB gentrified the neighborhood. Get it right.

Amazing - Edit

This place is exactly what being vegan means! Cam and everyone here are working hard to bring social justice to the area. The history of the building, the music, speakers, and events held, the vegan food brought in... all of it is remarkable! I love this place and can't wait to come back!

Pros: Everything!

Cons: Not one!

BettyBeats 27 Dec 2017 - Cam gentrified the area and stole the business from POC. The YMI is not supported by Cam or this business. In fact Cam and TBOB pushed out the people of color who had owned businesses in this building. Your review is completely biased.

love it! - Edit

I love the concept of this bar! I only had one drink, but it was fabulous (the pebbledash humbug mint chocolate drink). Prices are typical for bars, in my experience. Staff was very friendly.

Pros: all vegan, cozy bar, tasty drinks

Interesting idea, accomplished well - Edit

The Block is an awesome little place with a drink menu and daytime food menu that also features different vegan chefs every night for dinner. Firstoff, the cocktail menu is awesome. Also, the beer menu was pretty nifty as well. When I was there, there was a vegan cheese tasting alongside the nightly dinner, which was tacos. They had a gluten free entree, which was impressive. There were three types of tacos and several toppings/sides. I was impressed with how good the food was, especially because the chef is not regular. It was awesome. I also LOVED the vegan cheese. I will definitely be back:]

Great space for everybody - Edit

Cam and her team are doing a terrific job with this most beautiful and historically important space. All the furnishings and decor were hand-selected to reflect the purpose and mission behind this social justice, vegan gathering place. The bar is beautiful and offers several fun cocktail concoctions, along with diverse local and regional beers on tap, and a really nice wine menu. The food offerings are ramping up and will include local plant-based chefs and vegan food providers.

Pros: location, space
