Breakfast

Had beans for breakfast. Didn’t even have bread / toast even though I booked in advance and asked if they could cater for me

Evening meal

No starter courses at all - not bothered. We are vegan. They had 3 main courses that you can have as vegan: chilli (£14.90), curry and tagine. The chips are cooked in the same fat as fish, etc. so they made potato wedges in the oven for us.

Pros: Friendly and helpful staff , The chilli was very tasty and not too hot

Cons: You need to book at least a day in advance , No vegan substitute for sour cream , Only vegan desserts were sorbets.

Great pub, food and friendly staff. Reasonable value with 3 vegan mains.

Would of been nice to have an option for starters and something other than sorbet for dessert

Purple mooses in Dylan Thomas's favourite pub

A busy restaurant (we booked on a Thursday evening, and it was packed), and deservedly so; it has a small but more than adequate selection of vegan and vegetarian dishes. I had the Glamorgan sausages, and my partner went for Teifi halloumi (what next? Sirhowy freekeh?). Both were delicious.

It's supposedly Dylan Thomas's favourite pub (and New Quay is said to be the inspiration for Llareggub), so it has a reputation to live up to. The draught ale was from the Mws Piws* (purple moose) brewery in Porthmadog - not a bad drop at all.

This is a Welsh-speaking area, and there's a lot of Welsh spoen in both the bar and the restaurant, but be not afeared - the staff's default language is English. Mind you, I made the mistake of greeting the attendant at breakfast with "bore da!" and was rewarded with a torrent of mellifluous Welsh, very little of which I understood.

* for those puzzled by Welsh spelling, "mws" is pronounced pretty much like "moose" and the 'IW' in "piws" sounds just like the first syllable of "iwwitate", as spoken by the very un-vegan Elmer Fudd.

Pros: Small but decent vegetarian/vegan menu
