Read moreGreat location and wonderful food. But unfortunately closed down last month. Not because of money issues, but because of a new building project. The restaurant might come back, but not in Almere.

Nice lunchroom, but low-protein dishes - Edit
This place is relaxed and the staff is friendly. Since October 2023, there are new owners and they’re very hospitable. However, their menu is so-so, because their dishes tend to have limited protein sources.
Read moreWe’ve had several tasty foods, like sushi bowl, kapsalon, broodje kroket, blueberry muffin, lemon/poppy cake and pistachio cookie. The banana bread used to be great: tasty, nutty and fluffy, but it has become firmer, nutless and less tasty.
Some of their pies are a bit dry and too sweet, but we liked their carrot cake, cherry/choco and ‘kruidnoten’ pie.
Their drinks are nice as well, e.g. Soof lemonade, chai latte, matcha latte and hot chocolate with whipped cream (with real chocolate).

Ik weet nooit wat ik moet kiezen hier. (Bijna) alles valt in de smaak, zowel hartig als zoet. De taarten zijn niet gezond hier, maar ik kom er toch graag steeds voor terug. Vriendelijk personeel, soms wel wat haastig als het druk is. Ze zijn soms misschien iets te populair voor de ruimte die ze hebben.

I stopped here while cycling around the Netherlands. Best decision of the entire trip.

They explained that the dish I ordered is popular in the Netherlands and that they make it vegan with seitan and they also use sweet potato fries instead of regular fries.
The juices, coffee, and desserts were fantastic too. This place is definitely worth a side trip from Amsterdam whether by train or bike!

I have tried the avocado toast, the iced latte, the cakes, the muffins, the pokebowl and the tuna sandwich all on separate occasions. Most through toogoodtogo and some through dining there and every single time its amazing. Service? Amazing. Ambiance? Amazing. Food? Amazing. Quality for price? Amazing.

I love when places don’t scream ‘I’m vegan’ but silently are. The black cockatoo is one of those places. Located on the shopping street of Almere, I’m sure it also attracts many non-vegans that just walk in for coffee/lunch. That wasn’t me I went to this place finding it on HappyCow and I was astonished by their delicious food. Would go back

Charming all vegan lunch spot in Almere with healthy and not so healthy lunch options 😏 The soup is usually tasty and fresh, I had a good grilled cheese sandwich with kimchi and sauerkraut and coffee is also good. They also have sweets/cakes. Friendly owners as well. 5 starts for all this, only tip would be that I’d like the option of whole grain bread

Good food, great service! Owners (I guess) were super kind and friendly, food was very fresh and cheaper than the average here in the Netherlands. Inside it’s really nice and they also have a small kids corner with some toys and pencils!

Been coming here for a long time. Owner recently changed, but it's still the same lovely place with a very nice vibe. Has a healthy monkey platter for little children with fruits and veggies of choice and a kids corner. Some healthy food and some fried food on the menu, voor ieder wat wils as we say in Dutch. You have to order at the bar.
Read moreThe outdoor seating around the corner is partially on a narrow sidewalk next to a heavy traffic road, so quite some car fumes. The owner can't help this, but for planning your visit, it's good to keep this in mind. Right in front, the seating is better, but not too many seats.

Das ist vielleicht der einzige Kritikpunt, sie haben Tomaten und Zwiebeln etc erst bei der Bestellung geschnitten, Das könnte man vorher vorbereiten; vielleicht war an dem Tag vorher viel los und bereits alles leer. #Veganuary

Iedere keer weer perfect! Soms gaan we hier alleen koffie of thee drinken met een heerlijk stuk taart. Gisteren hebben we kapsalon en een broodje kroket (bitterbal) gegeten. Het was weer heerlijk! Het is een genot om een hele menukaart te zien waar alleen maar vegan opties opstaan.

Came here for lunch with a non-vegan Dutch friend and he said the vegan bitterballen is identical to the traditional meat-based version! We both enjoyed our meal. Cozy atmosphere in town center.

The food was so good at this place. I ordered the special ‘Floriade’. The sweet potato fries with rendang flavored beetroot was delicious. The brownie and banana bread looked mouthwatering good as well, but the ordered dish filled me up too much to have one of the other snacks. Would definitely come back to taste those as well 😍🫶🏼.
